Any good spec wise?

Yes I have this, specs wise it is very good as family laptop..Windows 8 wasnt too hard to get used to, its very smooth, quick startup and generally quite fast... However the volume is very low compared to previous acer laptop especially when kids are watching movies.. I think I need to buy external speakers....

Anyone know if theres an 8gb(ram) version? And how much? Thanks

By contrast you can buy this refurbished from Argos on eBay for £4 more than this so get the unused new version on their main site!

what will this be like for low end gaming?

Is the screen matt or glossy?

why is the screen res on laptops still so poor - always a deal breaker for me, need at least 1080p

Great laptop otherwise!

Just a heads up anyone with a Halifax bank account - we had a cashback offer on our account for 8% cashback with Argos this morning. Will knock a bit more off.

Is this Lenovo spec/machine any better that I have seen elsewhere?:

•Intel® Core™ i5-4200m processor
•4Gb RAM
•1Tb (1000Gb) storage
•Windows 8.1
•15.6 inch high-definition (1366 x 768)
•DVD optical drive
•Integrated Stereo speakers with Dolby® Advanced Audio
•USB 3.0 x 2, USB 2.0 x 1, 2-in-1 (SD / MMC) card reader
•HDMI-out
•H 37.7, W 3.7, D 25 cm
•Lenovo G510 laptop

Isn't the "m" series chips supposed to be better than "u" series performance wise?

£369 (also can get Quidco 7% cashback)

peaceoff

I have an aspire 7720 running vista that had a similar problem with sound. Try the following
Return your speakers to the default settings. In Realtek HD Audio Manager, choose Speakers, Default Format tab, and click the button that looks like an eraser (Restore Defaults). Otherwise look for a loudness equalisation checkbox and/or limit output checkbox and ensure they aren't selected.
How this is done in Win8 I don't know but I'm sure you will work it out.

The 4200m seems a lot better processor from the benchmarks: 4200m versus 4210U

Other than that they look like much of a muchness on the face of it, a slight difference in the USB ports, but an extra £20 too....

I *think* the Lenovo is the better deal but could well be wrong.

Remember you can get 7% quidco CB on this too...... however, apparently Woolies not got a good reputation on here....??

Not a great price got this from Sainsburys for 315 last December, I think Currys also had a deal about a month earlier. OK as a family computer.

That's not a reason it's a colour selection.

"The reason I bought this laptop was due to it's exciting range of colours, I had the choice of Red, Blue or Purple, To be quite honest with you had the the colours been White, Pink or Green I do not think I would not have bothered"

Now go away and stop wasting my time

Can I ask what are the criteria for a merchant to get banned / suspended (apart from self promo).....

Probably would cope with things like hearthstone or minecraft. But in reality with an intel HD graphics card, your gaming options will be limited to games which have very low system requirements.

2.5Kg. Better not be late cos you won't be running fast carrying this around.

looks a good comparison but it's not apples for apples - your link is for a refurb this deal is for new?

Although both have the 12 month warranty which is generally good enough for me there are lots of people that won't consider refurbs

What graphics does the ASUS X550CA have?

You will struggle to find a "full" HD display laptop at this price range atm.

It's usually cheaper to just buy your own stick especially as an 8gb model may not be available.

For a 4th gen i5 its not bad at all imo and will be sufficient for your usage. However for your usage an i3 may be sufficient and can be around £100 cheaper which you might be interested in being a student. Low end gaming is definitely all you'll be able to manage without a graphics card.

Lenovo G510 referenced earlier any better for low end gaming or video editing with the "m" series CPU?

Can anyone in this thread who has this laptop say if the screen is matt or glossy?

I found the same model on Amazon & asked them via online chat & after 20 minutes of searching, they were unable to tell me
