FHD too. Hmm interesting. Pity it's hard drive rather than SSD but still noteworthy

someone is gonna say it so it might as well be me !
an i3 GAMING laptop ??? hmmmm ,
ok if the game is PacMan.
ok its a 6th gen processor and 8GB ram with a 950 GPU........ but an i3 !
good luck with that

i3-U.. hate it when they try roping In people with "gaming laptop"

Good find OP. This is about the only 950m FHD laptop I've see that's less that £500. Okay, maybe the CPU's not ideal but I've played plenty of games on my old Dell which had a far weaker i3-370m CPU and an ATI 5650 GPU. Also you have to remember that many games are limited far more by the GPU than the CPU so this laptop will run games far better than say a laptop with an expensive i7 CPU and a lesser Nvidia 930m.

Same recommendation as before...if you're tempted and have the money, buy this now because inflation's about to rip and this laptop will cost you more in twelve months time.

agree. gpu always the limiting factor on laptop gaming. trying to find something to play xcom 2 with. my alienware m11x wont load it despite 4gb ram. too old i think for direct x? my asus t100 netbook wont load as only 2gb. my dell xps 18 loads it and got ok performance when tweaking unreal settings thanks to low spec gamer. but plays awful on battery. only good on mains. will have to play with power settings. off marketing today and wanted to play on train.

check out low spec gamer on you tube though!

This article from Notebookcheck.net is a bit out of date now but it does provide an interesting comparison of notebook processors and their effects on gaming performance.

notebookcheck.net/Int…tml

What I took from this is that while an i3 CPU is worse than an i5 & i7, the differences in gaming fps are far smaller than you might imagine because for the most part, games are bound by GPU performance, not the CPU.

Can I also add that having a basic HDD as opposed to an SSD isn't the kiss of death that some folks will have you believe. In my experience with HDDs, once you're in a game, and say you die, the time for the game to take you back to the last checkpoint isn't overly long and to my might, quite acceptable.

Just in case anyone's interested, here's a review of the Acer F15 with the 950m GPU but with the i5 CPU. The review contains some gaming benchmarks which give you some insight as to what this Tesco laptop can and can't do in native 1080p.

notebookcheck.net/Ace…tml

The I3 in this is perfectly balanced with the the GPU, and the system in general.

You aren't going to max everything out, but you'll get a perfectly decent experience at 1080p with medium settings on most games. Sticking a beefier cpu in will not change that.

wow says uptp 12 hour battery life! wonder what that is like for gaming? even if half great. my dell xps 18 says has 2 hours left. my asus t100 has 8 odd hours but can be topped up by micro usb battery pack. battery packs with dc cost 60 quid on amazon.

need to do more research as 499 seems great for 12 hour gaming laptop! would prefer without dvd drive and maybe 17 inc screen but seems balanced otherwise. thanks op and those with reviews.

need to read when free how they rank.

shame can never upgrade them...

Also worth noting that the 950m has double the dedicated ram than the one in this deal

The i5 review gave figure of two and half hour battery life under load. Suspect it'd be nearer that than the 12 hours

The DVD drive means you can probably take that out for more storage, and if it's like the i5 on review it has an m2 slot ready for an SSD.

ha... only problem is train journeys can be 3 hours!

have to admit, you guys have got me very interested!

gpuboss.com/gpu…-Ti

says that 950m is not too far away from my 750ti I use for all my gaming on my desktop

for £500, that's pretty cool...

so need to double check that battery life OR get this

amazon.co.uk/Pow…ank

can any of these charge by USB-type C ? As they are much cheaper than a DC output?

my last gaming laptop was m11x so please excuse my ignorance. but that's what HUKD is about! showing me new products! cheers OP!

I just looked on amazon etc for 950m and saw some with 1gb video memory, so 2gb is great! this is separate dedicated I expect?!

thanks for link. just had time to read it now lunch time approaching.
this laptop had higher battery capacity than others, but yes, 2.5 hours under load... not sure is enough

and if has 62 watt hour...

what is 23000 mAH?

i.e. how many times could this 69 quid power bank recharge it? 1/3?

I am used to phones having say 2500 mah batteries, so a 8000mah powerbank I carry can charge it say 3 times.

tablets normally have say 6-8000mah batteries

trying to work out what this does?

I guess no hope of usb-c charging on this beast?

Make sure you get a seat with a socket.

Even when gaming I'd guess it's not quite at full pelt the whole time unlike a load test so it might manage.

It has a 90w power supply...

battery packs seem about 50% cheaper with usb-c rather than dc....

ha ! when I travel virgin.. the sockets are usually duff anyhow! but yeah... that is the key!!!

If you want to take a Wh rating and convert it to mAh, divide it by the voltage of the battery and multiply that by 1000. For example: A 90Wh battery that has a voltage of 12V. Divide 90 by 12, which gives you 7.5. Multiply by 1000, and you now have the mAh rating of 7,500mAh.4 Jun 2012

so has 62 wah battery. call it 19v.

so 62 divide by 19. is just over 3.

3.25
x 1000

3250 mah? no.... way too small?!

that 60 quid battery pack could charge it 6 tines. what am i missing?

if the volatage was 10 would still be just double so 6500 mah.

what is the voltage of this battery?

googling confuses me as batteries have many cells...

superuser.com/que…ell

suggests I might be right. why do they put so small batteries in?

In which case - why don't I get this

debenhamsplus.com/p/1…MCw

says charges laptop 2-3 times!

my attention on this today as going from London to Cardiff this evening

my m11x won't play xcom 2, nor will be asus t100. so bringing my i3 dell xps 18.4 which has intel hd4000 graphics

I can after tweaking with low spec gamer get 10-15 fps on mains... but only 5 fps on battery! takes forever just to load mission too!

so it's unplayable on battery (maybe can max performance instead of balanced) but fine on mains..

only thing that puts me off is I had a lovely acer 17" laptop many years ago and it suddenly went kaput just after warranty expired! I vowed never to get one again!

Says max output of 20v, 3a though and the PSU gives 19v 4.7a so might not work

Debenhams plus seems to get mixed reviews though

acer website suggests usb c can be used for charging. i have emailed fhem. just saw a YouTube video about charging macbooks by usb c even if only 10w output eg 5a x 2v

Good value for the spec, but not terribly trusting of Acer I'm afraid.

yeah. i had a bad experience ironically with tesco a decade or so. wonderful laptop. 17" screen for about 299. blew up after 2 years. but this seems a great price spec wise. just waiting on usb c charging...
