Dell of similar (maybe better) spec is cheaper.

Acer = poor build quality ... and a Sempron isn't going to keep up with a C2D specced Dell for not many ££ more. Vista basic only sours the deal further

Nothing wrong with the Acer name but it certainly is not high on my list and these specs are awful when Play do an Acer Celeron M with decent chipset, Vista home premium and integrated webcam for the same price. Only bonus here is Asda will probably give you a full refund when it inevitably dies in the first year.

Isn't that a paradox.

But you're right, nothing wrong with the Acer name, I'm on my third Acer laptop and I only upgrade/change because of improved spec for lower cost. Never had a single issue with any of them and the kids use the original which is now 5 years old. Certainly NOT inevitable.

From my experience (two Acer laptops) this isn't true. But I agree this model is not a great deal.

From my experience Acer are pretty shoddy, (4 over the years) although in fairness I haven't used one in perhaps 4 years.

I am now on my third Acer. My laptop is used all day, every day. Never had a hiccup of a problem with any of them. Generally good spec at a good price. Have sold my previous two privately after two years use. I thoroughly recommend the brand based on my experience.

I quite like Acer, never had any problems with them unlike Dell! Good price... voted hot

i thought it was a decent buy especially sub £300

One other thing which i take into consideration, which i dont think many do is the weight (or portabilty) of the laptop. some laptops weigh really heavy >3Kg and i know acers are quite light. furthermore Acer also offer AcerAdvantage programme which from some online is a bargain £77.55 INCLUDING accidenatal damage.

if your household is like mine where most things last about 2 months with a 7 and a 9 year old running around i thought it was a decent buy especially with the reasonably priced all inc warranty.
