Just be aware that under 2.3.5 & 2.3.6 you cannot switch to Android UI, as you could with 2.2... there are work arounds if you look on Modaco...

Also I have had 2 touch screen failures, both required sending back to Acer; the first time took ages with a lot of prompting to return my phone; the second time was a lot smoother. They send a courier to pick up the phone... so all in all ok warranty service (avoid expanses and go straight to Acer though!).

I have one with a blank screen. Who did you contact at Acer? I would be grateful if you could post website/contact details. Thanks

yes... was just about to order, but the plastic screen has put me off somewhat

I think its probably due to the fact the screen is slightly curved...

Thanks, was looking for a phone for a teenager so it'll need to be a bit more robust than that.

Phone 0871 760 1000... explain your problem (can be a tad frustrating as its an Indian call centre), they will ask you to do a hard reset (try this beforehand)... if the problem still persists they will give you a case number and send an email which explains how to parcel the phone up and arrange courier collection by UPS.

Screen is plastic but I reckon with a screen protector on it, it is more robust than a glass screen!

Bought this about 2 months ago, really pleased with purchase, fast, crisp operation, updates easy, plastic screen not a problem in fact makes phone lighter. Battery life very good lasting at least two days using bluetooth and wifi. Ordered from expansy arrived in two days. Nice packaging . Only slight issue is internal mempry but added 32gb micro card and all is well. Highly recommend especially for this price.

I bought this a couple of months ago, great phone. Internal memory is slight issue especially as not all aps can be moved to the SD card.

Also, forget about cashback through TCB. I never got mine, raise a case and got a message that cashback wouldn't be approved?? Anyway, great phone

acer liquid metal OR orange monte carlo

which one do i get??!!!

Not too bad but....
I'd much prefer the Xperia Mini Pro for £129.99
shop.o2.co.uk/mob…pro
cheaper, with a newer generation processor and it's guaranteed to receive an update to Ice Cream Sandwich.
Plus £10 Quidco and a £20 Shopping Voucher.

Only downside for some is the lower res display, but HVGA has always been fine for me.

good phone , had mine for a couple of months.
yeah , not much internal memory , move as much as possible to sd card.
never noticed a plastic screen , stuck a screen protector on it anyway.
battery needs recharged every night.
looks great especially the silver one.

btw ... does anybody know how to switch back to the acer gui as the option
to do so seems to have dissapeared after the last update that i done.

If it's a choice between those 2, then the Acer.
But like I just posted, the Xperia Mini Pro is a great choice.

Different processor but not newer gen, they are both Snapdragon S2.

Unlocking is a very simple procedure. £15 including unlocking bootloader too.

how much better is the acer than the monte carlo? im looking for a new phone asap and they both fit into my price range

The Acer has 2-3 times the graphics power, and that's before you crank than processor up to 1.5GHz

Can anyone who has picked one of these up from Expansys check somethign for me..

The one I bought from them has a different IMEI to that on the box, and theres a very professional looking (but printed) dymo label replacement with the new IMEI on it stuck over the old one in the battery bay.

Im assuming that this has been done legally by Acer for some reason.. but is this the case with all of these from Expansys?

(I bought it B-Grade from them - although described as new with damaged box which it was, as the new ones were out of stock.)

The processor in the Acer is far superior,
ARMv6 in the Monte Carlo and ARMv7 in the Acer.
armv7 architecture has a "NEON" unit that provides blindingly fast hardware support for single precision floating point arithmetic
The GPU is also much faster in the Acer. Adreno 205.

Also the Acer has better build quality, plus 802.11n WiFi.

okay, 1.5ghz??? i think im buying the acer just because of that!
and btw how on earth do i go about oc'ing a mobile phone processor, i used to be into the oc'ing scene a few years back but i lost all interest because of studies
