Your all mad, doesn’t matter what’s happening in a few months, all PCs and laptops have something on the horizon that will be better etc etc. Today.......right now, at £609 brand new from a store with a warranty, this is a great deal. I5 8300 with a 1650 is not even an entry level, it’s a perfectly decent spec and will play any game at 1080p medium all day. Good find OP.

Laptop prices dont necessairly fall at any given time, they fall at specific times i.e, when new models come out. So its best to wait, for 650 u could get more bang for your buck or better yet, if you like this specific laptop so much, you could maybe even grab it at a cheaper price of £500-£550. Just like how the rx560x is at that price point, the gtx 1650 will probably be the new rx560x of 2020

But today??? If you want a laptop today??

Heeeat!!
Now this is worth it. Instead of that silly 500£ deal before.
Weird that it has a 8300H, I thought that the 2019 Nitro 5 models only had the 9000 series processors.

But it has various improvements over the older Nitro 5 model that's been £650. The gpu is a 1650 which is a big upgrade over the 1050, overall smaller size including thinner screen bezel, larger capacity battery, better trackpad, keyboard LEDs still red only but have different brightness options and the revised model has 2x NVMe slots + 2.5" sata slot (old model was 1 of each).
@Joe90_guy Is this a good deal in your opinion?

Could be an error on their part, if you Google the model number it comes back as a i5 - 9300H.
Anyone know if this has the 9300 or the 8300 as the spec says?
One question - is it available in real brick and mortar stores, or just online? I want to get VAT back on it

I'm sticking to my belief that you should hold off buying ANY currently available laptop on the basis that in a couple of months, they could be effectively rendered obsolete.

AMD's 4000 series CPUs are coming. I've just this minute read the article below about a soon to be launched Acer laptop with just a humble 15W AMD 4500U CPU and NO discrete GPU. This thing is playing GTA V smoothly at 1080p (albeit at Low settings). This is just mind bogglingly good!

notebookcheck.net/Mas…tml

It's best if you follow the link to the original Russian review (& let Google translate it for you).

This Acer probably isn't what you want if you're going to be doing serious gaming but it demonstrates how we're about to witness a generational change in performance. I'm waiting for the new all AMD Dell G5 to launch. I maybe wrong but at a US starting price of $US 800, this thing offers serious power at a bargain price.

Thank you.
Looking for a entry level gaming laptop for some time. I don’t think there’s anything comparable for the money, is there? I hear what @Joe90_guy says about waiting, but I’m guessing when AMD’s 4000 range is out, it’s not gonna be at this price point. So for someone who wants a PC for general use, but of retro gaming and light modern gaming at 1080p, is this as good as it gets
This should be £500 considering in a couple months much improved laptops coming out, not worth it imo for 650

It's not just what AMD is doing.

Nvidia is dumping the DDR-5 based 1650 GPU in this laptop & replacing it with a much faster DDR-6 based 1650. My bet is they will offer the new GPU at the same price as the old one.

And not forgetting that Intel themselves are rushing out a swathe of 'new' CPUs to meet the AMD threat. Given that these are likely to be much the same as the current ones, it may well be that Intel are forced to compete on price.

I think we will see far better laptops than this one at this price point & possibly even lower! I live in hope...

It's not easy to say because there's an embargo in place on releasing details on new machines.

Personally I'm reckoning on April 1st, which in my eyes isn't that far into the future that I can't wait for it to happen.

Read this today & it (theoretically) reflects extremely well on the new, $US 800, all AMD Dell G5...

If you read the Ukrainian article above about the Acer, they talk about them 'breaking the embargo'. I'm assuming it's a condition on them getting new AMD notebooks to review, that they don't publish what they know or find out until some pre-agreed date.

And TBH, if this is causing you 'to suffer' then you really need to get a grip of yourself!

Same graphics card, isn't it? GTX 1650, 4 Gb.The SSD is bigger and the processor is presumably better, though.
No one else spotted that they changed the GPU to a GTX 1050?

Says on my order details that's it's a GTX 1650, so wondering what I'll actually receive now.

If it ends up being a GTX 1050 then it's going straight back with a complaint, poor deal if so.
Edited by: "MrBTC" 7th Feb
Looking around Acer don't even make this config, if it's got a GTX 1650 it would need to have a i5-9300H.

If it does indeed have a i5-8300H then it'll be a GTX 1050, so there's definitely something amiss.

Ouch, that ain't good. No previous price showing on it either, which makes sense since they surely weren't selling a 1050 for £850...

Yeah I ordered mine when it said GTX 1650 and have a confirmation email saying so. Now its been dispatched with it saying its a GTX1050.

Im going to expire the deal as the link has now been updated and wait and see what i get delivered. Will not be happy if they send me the 1050.

Indeed, hopefully if it was an error on their part they send the equivalent spec version which would have a i5-9300H and maybe a 1TB internal HDD in addition to the SSD.

But knowing Currys...
Created an account just to post this!

Hi all,

Ordered this myself and it arrived yesterday. It is indeed a lower spec model- I5 8300 and gtx 1050 3gb (it's an even carper version of a carp card!) that I received.

Flagged it to Pcworld and the guy on the phone was quite helpful and made a note to send out the correct spec on the next one once I'd returned this one. Don't know if they will do this or not but this was before the advert updated and I do have a screenshot of it so....
Hopefully it's just me and you all get the correct spec, but I wouldn't hold your breath :/

Thanks for the info, looking at the other versions they have they can only send you this one as a replacement:

Better CPU, Smaller SSD (but was going to replace it anyway) and an additional 1TB internal HDD.

I'd be happy with that.

Took it back in and getting a full refund as it was mis-advertised dissapointing to be sure, and generally put me of Curry's - this is the second largish purchase I've tried to make of them in a year and they have managed to feck up both times and drive me into the waiting arms of online shops....
