I own this machine, bought it a few weeks back for £499.99 from Currys. Its not bad for the price, mines was pretty much free from an insurance claim and the highest spec they had at that price, much better than my 6 year old hp with a Celeron inside.

So far i have a few niggles with it.
*The charger is large, the charging pin is thin (breakable thin)
*Seems to be no way to keep keyboard backlight on (30 time out, bios option does nothing)
*Webcam quality is terrible

But it has good points
* Lovely screen, not overly bright but nice and sharp, good viewing angles
* Solid keyboard (not mechanical but good firm keys , didnt feel mushy, not alot of flex which is good)
* The speakers (wow these things are loud, good base and crisp at higher volumes, love them)
* Excellent selection of ports on it (plenty of usb3 ports)

Overall if i had bought it with my own money, id be more than happy. It gets used for light gaming and uni work

Played, sims 4, frost punk, 911 operator and starcraft 2, all at high settings and everyone was playable

Fair enough to consider the alternatives, but the switch and this are completely different gaming experiences..... I’d let your daughter decide!

Would this be considered just a good starter gaming laptop or would seperates be a better investment with room for add ons?

Its good for less intensive games or newer titles at reduced settings but the best way about it is to set yourself a budget and then finding the best thing for it.

That said if you're able to stretch over £100 this is a great choice with a much more powerful GPU, better screen and better processor and larger SSD.

Gpu is bad, had an asus 505dy with the rx560 and while its ok its not great. That being said this is a great price for a gaming laptop. The asus 505dt with a gtx 1650 can be had from hughes direct for £550, better laptop.

Which argos deal please?
I wouldnt recommend the gtx 1050 or rx 560x, they are pretty bad when it comes to most games. I would recommend investing abit more and get the GTX 1650, but it can be abit pricey but its worth it. Pretty bummed that the rx580x is not in any laptop that ive looked at so far because the its much better than the gtx 1650 while at the same price point but the downside is no laptops have it yet.

Enjoy. Do make sure the screen is runnign in 120hz mode via windows display settings as sometimes they default to 60hz.
Ao lets go
Great price considering there’s laptops out there with non-dedicated graphics at the same price. Great for me as I only game occasionally on a pc, and prefer consoles nowadays. Impulse bought based on this deal, thanks.

That is £130 more expensive
I bought the Lenovo IdeaPad 330S Ryzen5 2500U Radeon Vega 8 Graphics / 8GB RAM / Full HD / 256GB SSD - £349 from AO last week, is this worth the extra £120? the difference I can see is the graphics card really.

I bought as an Xmas present, so could return the Lenovo and pay the difference for this ASUS.

same cpu buddy, the gpu is defo more powerful, enough to make most games atleast playable, but its not the strongest of cards. A 1650 would be a better entry option

I have to strongly disagree, ive run a 1050ti 4gb with an i5-7300hq in a medion erazer laptop for 2 years now, 62 games so far all can be played on 1080p with high settings i get between 45fps and 70fps which for me is perfect, some games i can run on ultra high such as f1 2019, motogp 2019 the last 3 c.o.d games, farcry 4 and 5, the only game ive found so far that i have to tone down to more medium is xplane 11.

Yeah, £130 is allot for a better GPU I thought, my son won't be playing latest AAA titles on ii as he has an Xbox One & PS4, so I was after an all round decent laptop he can use for homework/movies/web surfing/you tube etc, he likes playing Games like Rome Total War 2 on Steam on my laptop, so games that are a few years old.
Laptops with Ge-Force 1650 card are around £700, so almost twice the price, so abit out of my budget ATM.

Same. I need it to have a lot more storage tho. Steam games, and photo/music files will need their space but i dont want it on an external drive as its an extra thing to carry/plug in...

A Ti is a much better card than a stock 1050.
I wouldn't really call a laptop with less than a 1050Ti a gaming laptop.

It's £80 more, it's going to be better. Just like how a £630 laptop will be better than that £550 one.
Does anyone know if the SSD is an M.2 chip or whether it uses the SATA port?

Spending abit extra for the rx580 or gtx 1650 that guarantees good fps for nearly all games at high graphics is much more worth it. U are already starting to get 45fps with the less graphic demanding games eventhough they are new, it all just depends on the person tho, if they play the same games as u have sure why not, no need to invest in more but in my case the games i play compared to u are more graphic demanding so for me, i find its worth the extra money u spend.

It should be super fast-

cpubenchmark.net/cpu…123

7500 or so cpu mark

For comparison an old i7 2600 is 8200.

I have played fm (one league) on intel atom netbooks!

I3 desktops are about 3000 passmark and i5s about 5000

These are older models as I tend to buy and sell old desktops as cpu performance not changed much but gpu has

(I have i7 3820 for my gaming rig with vega 56)

Agreed
It's a very good laptop as I have it and it's played evryrhting I have chucked at it fine at 60fps. Key thing though is pull the 8gb out snf buy 16gb for 60 quid and out it in. Makes a huge difference.

The 560x is a poor card compared to what other laptops are offering say the asus 505DT. The 505DY has the same card and I found it very fiddly due to driver, ok it works! As said though at this price point its a deal for a entry level gaming laptop.

For the price you get a card that runs pretty much anything at high settings apart from odd few games. As I said 16gb ram is vital though imo the 8gb is not enough hence why I upgraded.

Admittedly with the 560x driver support had not been great but you can actually manually install latest drivers fine and they work no problem.

Driver issues were the main reason I sold my Asus 505DY and bought 505DT. As said I totally agree with you about it being ok, games at high settings um.. possibly.
