Will this run w7 or w10 ?
Looks like a sandwich/packed lunch box

You can actually stack this with other units offered by Acer. Like graphics card unit, hard drive unit etc.
Where can you get the graphics slice?
Wow! They're still doing that Free DOS? Good price though...
How do you install if there's no optical drive

The CPU in this has never been used in any Apple hardware.

No, in general the Bay Trail CPUs (the N3050 is one of them) are not supported. There are workarounds, but you are in for a world of pain.
Probably able to install Openelec(LibreELEC)

Bootable USB.
If the CPU was a little faster would have gone for a couple of these

cpubenchmark.net/cpu…GHz
So I guess plex transcoding wouldn't work very well on this?

Maybe for one possibly two concurrent streams but no more
Or get a decent client which can go 'native'

Great to know. I'm trying to think of the best way utilise this as a perimeter device with multiple NICs. I'd probably need to go down the USB NIC route

I used to have a client who went native. Her name was Mei Ling.
Now, where can I hide this from the Mrs after only just getting a "required" Microserver? X)

Just wondering would an old desktop PC with C2D 2.6GHz with 4G RAM or similar work better? as there are quite a lot on eBay, thinking to setup an ubuntu server with plexserver on it.

And here too now. The bit about X people about to buy is gone as well.

Yes indeed, PassMark for this CPU is 928 - C2D about 1700
but would be bigger wouldn't be as energy efficient.

It's a stackable unit. You can upgrade it by adding extra modules. trustedreviews.com/ace…iew

I really like this idea, much better for an HTPC than having untidy external HDDs etc.
a few stupid questions:
1> How good is the CPU?
2> Is it quick for webbrowsing and youtubing?
3> Can I put in another SSD next to the original 32GB SSD?
4> Is it fanless (ie quiet/noisy?)?

that is very interesting. what other net top can it currently stack with for example?
For 12 quid more you can get the Brix from Amazon with J1900. It has twice the cpu grunt (roughly) which will be noticeable at some point. Doesn't come with 2GB ram, 32GB Memory or Dos, should you need such things.

or if it was my Ex; hiding it in the kitchen ? why bother, hiding it, she never went in there
Its so small it will easy fit between the joists under the floorboards.

Use a USB DVD-ROM drive, or make a bootable USB stick.
nice little HTPC i think. Just pop some VLC and play from the NAS and away I go.

Have some heat OP
What's the chance that this CPU/GPU would handle N64 emulation? Also, any idea if it can do 1080/24p?

Is this a more powerful machine than the one they did for £99.99 on Black Friday?
