Refurbished but still a bargain for one of the best slim and light, entry level laptops out there, if you don't want to buy a laptop direct from China / Gearbest etc

cold not gearbest no duty no long delivery time

Also it's got a UK layout keyboard and easy returns if faulty, so cold from me as well
Cheers for the heads up on this OP. Bought for my folks whose NC10 has finally died. They need it for the odd word document and a bit of simple browsing so this is ideal. I got the 128gb ssd version a while back and it is perfect for doing the same on.

Obviously this isn't a high end spec laptop but for basic needs it is great. The screen is superd on these.
I'm looking for a simple laptop for browsing and basic tasks. This or the i3 that was posted earlier for £250? I'm not bothered about refurbished so both look fine.

All depends what's more important to you. The HP is the more powerful laptop with its i5/8GB RAM but then it only has a 1366x768 screen that's pretty dim at 200nits. The Acer has the better screen, is lighter and has better battery life, but then it's less powerful in terms of CPU power.

If I was an old(er) person and primarily use a computer whilst plugged into the mains, I'd get the HP.

If I was someone who values portability or streams alot of 1080p films, I'd get the Acer.

Thanks for the overview, much appreciated. For home use mainly snd portable use will be limited so the more powerful one looks like the better option. Cheers!

good find and top deal

its ridiculous that we are well into, for years now, ultra hd 4k televisions and the laptop makers still dish out mainly 1366x768 hd ready screens

its worth snapping this up
This might also have a M2 slot too, not entirely sure because of the various configurations and Model numbers Acer has worldwide.

It definitely has a M.2 alot for SSD upgrades (M.2 2280 size).

Memory is soldered on, so no upgrading that.
Processor: 1.1ghz?, this would only just be ok for browsing the net, and even then not exactly speedily. Hell even my phone is 2.2ghz
Im after a cheap laptop for uploading raw files and a bit of post processing from my cameras.
Would this be suitable?

1.1 is the base speed, it has a burst speed of 2.5GHz

The processor is a very capable one for this price, probably won't be playing many games on it but it's definitely fine for Office, web browsing and media consumption.

It's got a higher benchmark score than the i3 350m I used to use for editing RAW files so it should do fine.
Seems like a good deal. Nice to see USB-C/3.1 & 2xUSB3 ports on an entry-level laptop.

Processor clock is no real indictation of performance and hasn't been since the late 90s.
I've had one of these for a few months and it's great, just remember to do a disk clean-up after a Windows feature update and you'e happy that it's all working to claim back about 20gb of the small on board storage.

Also going to open it up tonight because if I can put an M2 SSD in it then that is exactly what will be happening!

It's a gem! buy if u do browsing, fbing and watch HD videos in Youtube.
Definitely worth it, just for the screen.

Acer's Swift 1 has a sharp, 13.3-inch, 1080p display that outputs vibrant colors. According to our colorimeter, the Swift 1 reproduced 125 percent of the sRGB color gamut, a score that surpassed the Swift 3 (80.5 percent), the Inspiron 13 5000 (71 percent) and the Asus VivoBook (68 percent), along with the category average (100 percent). These results were very evident when I watched the "DNA" music video by BTS. The colorful scenery and outfits were stunning to watch. I was impressed that the Swift 1's display was keen enough to capture the dimensional smoky blue tones in Suga's hair.
Solid deal, 4GB is enough for most people (Pro-tip: Firefox Quantum is not only faster than Chrome but easier on memory).

CPU is roughly on par with the Intel Core i5-430M from 2010, which is still more than enough for productivity and web browsing. But sips just 6 watts instead of needing a silly 35 watts.

Irony.
I'd say grab it, for most people it would be great. N4200 chip is perfectly capable, it may seem about the standard of a 4th gen i3, but the graphics are upto date, def makes a difference.
This laptop is silent too, it’s got passive cooling. It looks like a nice little number for MS office and web browsing. There’s an M.2 slot too according to the reviews.
Just a shame you can't charge via type-c, at least that's the info I've found online.
Mine arrived yesterday. Just set it up and it is really quick. Not a mark on it, box isn't perfect but is good condition. Stripped all the crap off it so it runs faster.
Mine arrived today.
I know it's refurbished and unlike Siddas there's a a deep dent on mine along the top panel. I'm toying with the idea of returning mine, but will speak to CS first on Monday to see if they will offer a partial refund to cover the damage.

Hope yours are OK and I was just unlucky....

That's a real shame. If you look at the description it says:

"This item is a professionally refurbished, A-Grade, Argos Manager Special - our top grade of refurbished item!

This product may have minor cosmetic marks or scratches. These will not hinder the functionality."

I wouldn't class a deep dent as a minor cosmetic mark or scratch so ask them to knock a fair bit of money off it. If you want I will take a pick of the mark on mine I made earlier so you can show them what a slight mark is!

Refurbs shouldn't have a deep dent in them if it hasn't been stated in the description. Minor cosmetic mark at most.

Open a dispute through Ebay/Paypal and if they don't give you a discount, just ship it back - return postage should be on them if you've activated PayPal protection:

paypal.com/uk/…rns
Thanks guys, I agree. Unfortunately their CS is only open on weekdays from 9 - 5.
But I will open a dispute with eBay/PayPal whilst waiting.

I can't switch it on in case I have to return it, so its just sitting there at the moment and I can't bear it!!!!

Have a good one.

Yes you can switch it on. You bought it online, you have 14 days to ‘assess’ it.
You might fight for a discount and then find it doesn’t power on or has a dodgy display or something.

Thanks for that Oneday.
I agree, but will refrain from switching it on until tomorrow, and hopefully will hear from them then.

I've done good and resisted since it arrived on Friday evening

Nothing wrong switching it on - just do it clean hands, and don't drop biscuit crumbs / coffee on it! Then repackage it properly afterwards.

You can do a factory reset anyway after you've had a quick evaluation of it (Page 23 below):
