That's perfectly usable for a basic laptop, plus it has a decent screen.

Not bad. Never had a problem with the laptops I bought from Argos Ebay. However its only £60 more for new with a mandatory 2 year EEC warranty.
Bought very same for my sister on Christmas.
Took couple hours to install all updates, however when installed was pretty impressive for general use: web browsing, social media, office, youtube- 1080p smooth too.

BEFORE YOU BUY: shame it is not powering on 10 days later, after nephew decided to poke screen with something. screen is not broken, however got funny "splash-look-a-like" drawing, he is probably future Picasso.

So if you got someone who likes to poke- avoid, otherwise it is great little machine!
First of all I think this is a hot deal.

This isn’t going to be used as a gaming platform, or taking your work home with you to perform serious database or spreadsheet crunching.

Having said that this should be of interest if that huge group of people who ‘merely’ want to watch YouTube or Netflix, do emails and Facebook, search the Internet with multiple tabs, look at photos from the sdcard of their camera, or do pages oof work in Word or Excel.

Though this is a budget end machine it has some ‘nice to haves’. Like the very fast storage drive, and the 1080p IPS high def screen. It’s aluminium casing doesn’t creak or flex like some budget plastic laptops. And it’s light as heck at 1.3kg. The touchpad is supposed to be very good. Another nice to have is that two of the available USB ports are USB 3.0 and also included is the more recent usb-c port - a bit of a nice surprise.

I say all this in the context that the Acer Swift 1 is currently £249.99 down at your local Argos. However this hukd thread is for the Argos eBay listing of what looks like a customer 14-day ‘change of mind’ return or packaging spoiled stock. Its listed as A grade though, and still with the 12 month warranty. A compensatory factor is that twice as big hard drive space on the Argos EBay listing, together with that voucher code the op mentions.

I would seriously consider this deal - or the regular Argos one in town for the same price. If you really think you need at least an i3 Intel processor - which can be twice as fast - say to process some of that video footage into something neater, or something that would benefit a much faster processor and ability to upgrade the ram, there is currently another budget offer that may appeal. It the LENOVO IdeaPad 320s 14inch laptop thats down to £329.99 at the moment. currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/lenovo-ideapad-320s-14ikb-14-laptop-grey-10169170-pdt.html

It's not 1995 anymore. Clockspeed is not a measurement of performance.

I wish one of the big guys (AMD/intel) would get this through to consumers. Sick of idiots buying old gen i7's because of teh gigahertz!
Looks to be the same one on clearance in Argos shops. £2 cheaper if you can find one. I bought an Argos refurbished Lenovo yoga 300 last year. Quite a decent little laptop for the money but it was half this price. Nothing wrong with these quad core processors for basic use.
Edited by: "Smartguy1" 30th Jan
This looks a bit of a bargain! A posh Jumper EZBook 3 Pro

The processor is fine for web browsing (use an ad-blocker if using Chrome though) and other non-intensive tasks. Single core performance is much stronger than that of the old atom based Celerons and Pentiums.
I’ve seen this before where someone comes in to a thread where people are being helpful with different opinions, and come out with distracting or incorrect information to see what the reaction is. Possible a child so be gentle with them

Hi anyone know if there is any difference in these laptops Acer P4YX or P52E ? Is one newer etc as they seem to be around the same price range any help much appreciated

To be honest, I think most people who intend to use this for emails, Netflix, Web browsing etc, maybe pretty disappointed with the performance. These laptops are pretty damn slow. Saying that, I bought the Lenovo Ideapad for my elderly mother to play mahjong and check her emails, and I had to send it back because it was too slow for her. I tried it myself, and it was quite bad in fairness, and very cheaply made. Cheap and plasticky for £350, and terrible keyboard.
The Swift 1 is a great entry level laptop that will suit many casual users. If it wasn't for the 4GB (which is not upgradeable), I would definitely buy something like as a cheap, portable machine.
I bought the 64gb version from Argos last week (has since gone down £30 which is annoying!) and I really like it. It is really thin and light and looks very swish. I did have an issue shortly after I set it all up, I closed the lid and it wouldn't start up again. Eventually managed to solve this, but just something to look out for. I'm not counting on this lasting forever but I just wanted something for web browsing and using word and this seems to work well. Argos did have the 128gb version for under £300 at the beginning of the month then when I went to order it had gone up to £399 so might be worth waiting to see if it goes back down again if you want more storage.

Thanks for the info. It helps balance out all the positive experiences owners are sharing. What was the model of IdeaPad? As there is a debate going on at the moment between a 320 and a 320s

Sorry but that is exactly what it is, broken.

h20628.www2.hp.com/km-…578

Also that is exactly why it happened after it was poked.

I should add that Acer do not make displays and it will be the exact same model of display that is used in other brand laptop's.
This was £299.99 on Argos website yesterday (128GB), and now is £399.99 !

It's still expensive at £360 with the 10% discount.

Price for new is likely to go back down to £299.99 again soon.
Would have been a good price at £270 had Argos not put the price up when the promotion started.

£252 is a OK price for a refurb.

Because you said GHz is not an indication of perfornance. You need good performance to run modern games correct? So then show me a 1 GHz CPU running modern games at 4k, since GHz has nothing to do with performance apparently.
I'm surprised and quite humoured that I have to explain the shortcomings in your argument for you. I rest my case

Wow. Some amazing logic right there.

GHz clock speed is not an indication of performance = correct.

I'll explain it for you, basically.

If you have a processor that can do 10 calculations per second per mhz and is running at 3000mhz (3.0ghz)... it can do 30000 calculations per second.

Now you have another that can do 20 calculations per second per mhz and is running at 2000mhz (2.0ghz)... it can 40000 calculations per second.

Of course the second one would be faster. That is as basic as I could put it. If you want a more thorough explanation please see: en.wikipedia.org/wik…cle

Or if you'd like a comparison of actual processors then just look at:

notebookcheck.net/AMD…tml

Oh wow! An AMD chip with 4 cores and up to 3.4ghz clock speed! it must be really fast! Look at those benchmarks!

notebookcheck.net/Int…tml

Oh wait! What is this?! An Intel chip with 2 cores and 3.1ghz max clock speed?! It must be slower! Oh wait no it beats the AMD chip in pretty much every possible processor benchmark even though it has half the amount of CPU cores and a lower clock speed.

As for "So then show me a 1 GHz CPU running modern games at 4k" - this has literally no relevance to the fact that clock speed is not an indication of performance.

tldr. Still no evidence of any set up with a 1ghz processor doing anything taxing at all other than browsing the web or using office, let alone running a high end game like I asked for. So why do pro gamers not use current gen 1ghz processors? Why 20 years ago were CPU's just a few Mhz? Maybe its because.

Dum Dum Dummmmm. They're slower.

Mate are you intentionally trying to look like a clown? If so you are doing a great job. The point he was making is that 1ghz does not instantly mean slow. Just because a machine cannot play 4k res games doesn't mean it is useless. Not to mention having a fast cpu doesn't make a machine good for gaming. Reality is you need to be spending 3 times as much as this if you even want to dream of modern gaming.
