I don't think you'll be disappointed. I'm looking for one as well but every post someone puts me off, waiting for the comments hopefully favourable
It’s a great laptop. Some alternatives to consider:

£449 for the Ryzen 5 version on currys (you’ll get very similar performance between ryzen 5 and 7)
£432 for the Lenovo s540
£550 for the zenbook 14 again on currys (more premium looking)
There was a 349 one with a TN panel some while back too.

The acer has a good battery but some would argue that the keyboard isn’t as good.
Would this be able to play Fallout 4?

Vega 10 graphic should be able to run Fallout 4 at 720p and low settings just fine. Overclocked 2400g with vega 8 let me have good 60fps most of the time on my media center 💻. 3700u should be at least 15% faster if keept cool
I’m tempted. Good storage. Is it IPS screen? Reasonable brand. Good cpu under £500. 15” May be more useful for tv viewing but 14” is so much more portable.
Not getting enough heat, so I think it's a miss for me.

Ryzen 5 version only has a 256gb drive. Worth the extra 50 in my view.

Course it does. It’s a very nice panel as well. Very solid colour accuracy and adobe sRGB

The zenbooks are premium models. Think you might be thinking of the ASUS vivobooks which are the entry level laptops

Heat is about more than the deal. Your OP is very poor and comes across as lazy.

If you set out some reasoning as to why it’s a good deal, advantages and reviews and so on, you would get better heat I think

Yes I’d probably agree. If your decision was either the acer ryzen 5 or acer ryzen 7.

But there are other deals out there and other considerations than the base spec. Build quality, aesthetic and other things are important too. For example the S540 uses a PCIe Samsung ssd, whereas the acer uses a WD which is a little slower (although unlikely to notice any real world changes)

And you can easily get a cheap 500gb m.2 ssd for £50 these days.

Which is why this website is not a good way of determining value, something that has worsened since the advent of the Pepper Shill Programme.
My other half is looking to buy this currys.co.uk/gbu…tml would this acer be a better option?

It's a great laptop at a very reasonable price having used this and the swift 1 I can't fault acer for the quality of build. Battery being long lasting and even though in swift 1 I have upgraded ssd it still holds charge for 9 hours.

Only thing is that swift 1 has not enough bright screen at times but swift 3 is great
This laptop or currys.co.uk/gbu…tml and using £38 back on quidco?

This is a good laptop. Just one thing to bear in mind is that this is an intel processor. The AMD one here has a better graphics processor and similar CPU ability.

I agree wholeheartedly with your comment about the Pepper Programme.
I also think some of the technical expertise has drifted away also.
I didn't detect the expected level of technical chit chat about upcoming intel generations for example.
10 was available without much conversation about it; good or bad.

Ah shame. I bought the zenbook back in early December. No regrets it’s a very nicely made laptop.

It's literally now just "here's something that will fulfil my quota, no idea if it's any good", and people boost it. Same thing for effort posts, which indicates nothing about whether anything in there is actually a good price. People confusing a community with a commercial website.

To be honest, I've got it up and running but not tested the speakers, so far the only thing I've noticed is the screen doesn't go back that far, but probably only because my current laptop goes almost flat, and backlit keyboard would have been nice perhaps.

Thanks for the swift feedback.
So still no solid comments for this laptop, to buy it or not.

No. Just buy a xbox for 100 quid.
Come on guys, heat it up...
Why is it still showing at 549 with the code
This is a crap deal. They had it on sale at under £400 a month before Xmas and then put the price up massively just so they could put it on "sale" now. You have to hate how cynical Dixons/Currys/PCW are....

I have not seen the Ryzen 7 version that cheap, even the Ryzen 5 was never under £400.
