At this price point it's going up against GTX1050 equipped notebooks, which wipe the floor with it graphics-wise. When the price of these Ryzen/Vega APUs comes down to match the price point of iGPU options from Intel they're going to be awesome, but at this price they simply cannot compete with the low tier GPUs from Nvidia that you can find being used.

I don't see the point of laptops with this sort of specification. More powerful, and expensive, than you need to watch video, not powerful enough to play modern games well.

They can make a decent middle ground for people doing rudimentary visual editing, but only if the price point lands at a middle ground too.

Agreed as the HP Envy x360 Ryzen equivalent priced in the USA is a similar price to the Amazon link you posted and I've seen the HP get a whole lot cheaper in the USA.

I expect these will get cheaper as more firms use the chips in lappies.
The British public are just not informed very well.
I agree, the gtx 1050 would be better for gaming, but at the same time that is actually also reduced in price by 100,from a better/cheaper supplier, and it doesnt have an ssd.
I just couldnt go back to clockwork hard drives.

Shame it's not better priced, think there is a real market for this type of machine. Personally don't want the weight or power drain associated with dedicated graphics this is ideal for casual gaming

Agree. £200 less and it's a good option.
So not good for gaming then?

will let let me play pubg at a decent setting?

its weaker than a gtx1050 then sounds crap for gaming

I think it can perform OK at 720p. But like everyone else said. At this price point, it is possibly better off with 1050. I got 1050ti and I am not even satisfied by it. It got the work done. A good option is to go for mx150 for general 720p gaming.

P/s: Currently need to look out for a good laptop for video editing as my brother is hunting for one. Any good ideas anyone?

How is that a like for like comparison? Show me a 2kg laptop with a GTX 1050 for cheaper.

Also no SSD and an older generation CPU.

The cpu's are near identical performance actually in single and multithreaded.
And to other responders, they are still over priced. It cant be A.M.D.'s fault, an 8 thread vega 8 c.u. desktop version of this chip would be about £115. (The 11 c.u. version is £140 and the 4 thread 8 c.u. chip is £90).
And thats RETAIL prices. Those lappy chips must be costing O.E.M.'s double figures maximum.

Ack guess I’ll have to throw down the hammer in a gtx1060 powered laptop
Do they have any lightweight 13"-14" laptops with these APUS yet?

I am waiting for some good deals on laptop with 1060 graphic. The problem is the current market is too absurd.

I am fine with 1050ti just I wished to get a consistent 60fps for a more demanding game.
Theres a coupla reduced 1060 laptops on scan for £1050.

No, likely some idea pads coming from Lenovo, but its all a bit wait and see (and obviously Curries etc have to sit on the new stock until they accept we wont be ripped off before they are priced 'real'.

I wished for similar regular reliable longterm value for money gaming performance in more demanding titles,so I built a desktop gaming rig when an RX 480 nitro was under £200 and didnt worry about it (Sapphire cards last Years).
The whole lot cost less than these lappies inc a 275 gig SSD and 23.5" IPS 5ms asus monitor.
The point of a.m.d.'s efforts with raven ridge vega chips was to cut through yet more bad news value for money wise, just as ryzen desktop cpu's have totally changed the desktop market.
That progress is being held up by greedy O.E.M.'s & retailers by the look of it.
(esp as ryzen is built with two ccx units and one can be filled with graphics tech, meaning thinner)
It wont last as people get clued up.
We know A.M.D. never meant to compete in the 'Gaming Laptop' sector with this new tech;
Its a very poor value for money segment consumer wise and volume wise comes under 'rich kids play things',(age 20 - 29).I know many will argue and quote stats coughed up by market researchers on behalf of O.E.M. firms, but the truth is I dont know anybody who still owns a proper 'gaming laptop'.
Most, no all of those toys just died and became Landfill at a loss of > £10 / week ownership and the £££ mistake of buying one was not repeated.
Lets hope these ryzen chips get utilized a bit more soon.

I do like their vegan. I was gutted that I did not build a rig earlier. Looking at the price now it is quite hard to build. Personally, I would like a desktop as well. I owned a gaming laptop because I travel quite a lot nowadays. So it ease my travel a lot. Hopefully when I settle down the price of the graphic card will calm down and I can build a pc as well
The MX150 can do 1080 fine with a little details loss or lower the resolution & go full detail whichever floats your boat. The MX150 is surprisingly good

This is hardly an ultraboook and if you wanted something lightweight then I wouldn't be buying either of these laptops, the difference between a 2.1kg 15.6" laptop and a 2.5kg 15.6" laptop is not going to be a dealbreaker for the vast majority of people. This CPU performs almost identically to the Ryzen one in the OP with the usual variation between single and multi core processes (marginally higher single core performance for Intel, multi core for AMD), and if you want to switch out the hard drive for an SSD then you can for about £60, which is conveniently the approximate price difference between these two laptops.

I really recommend you dont buy a laptop for video editing. Tho obviously any pc can do any task given time,
a similar desktop machine with 16 -32 gb ram would be better. ideally an R5 2600 running minimum 16 gig of ddr4 3000 would be similar money to this lappy - NOTE, NOW £599, just £50 above my prediction value price.-

This is better for video editing etc.
