Was looking for something instead of the Swift 3 7200U MX150 deal that Curry's messed up a couple of weeks ago, and noticed that the AMD 15.6" version now has £200 off, bringing it to under £600.

Some will be wondering how the Ryzen/Vega combo compares with i5-8250U and MX150, and the answer is that it stacks up pretty well. The 2500U processor is at least as fast as the 8250U, and the Vega 8 GPU is either slightly slower or on a par with the MX150 (depending on which benchmarks you use). Overall I'd say it's a better 'general use' laptop, but slightly inferior for gaming.

Overall this looks like a pretty good deal - Quidco currently have £30 cashback for laptops over £500 too, bringing this down even furher. For those with access to voucher schemes at work, there's also the option of getting discounted vouchers as well.

- AMD Ryzen 5 2500U processor
- AMD Radeon Vega 8 graphics
- 256 GB SSD drive
- Thin and light (well 2kg...) design ideal for portability
- 8GB RAM
- 15.6" Screen

After the last fiasco and circus of incompetence.. I can't see myself ever darkening the door of PCW/Currys ever again...

At any price.

[Edited to add - sorry - don't mean to flame your good post! It's a good offer other than the 'offeree'!]

Yeah, I know what you mean. However with the 10% off (for the 7200U mess-up) and using my £313 of 'free' vouchers from the PS4 Pro mess-up last October, along with 8% off employee discount vouchers...and possible £30 quidco...

I reckon this could cost me as little as £170

Most reviews have this version at around 4 (out of 5) stars at the £800 price point. Like the rest of the Swift 3 series it loses marks for the reflective screen (and iffy colour reproduction).

Hell yea I second that! Incompetent idiots!
A good deal is a good deal wherever it comes from. And this is a great deal for a general purpose laptop with the added flexibility of playing a wide variety of games at 1080 resolution with medium setting
Is this likely to have the same poor brightness as the previous Swift 3 with integrated graphics they tried to stitch us up with? :P

Yeah, it'll be the same glossy but low brightness screen. Tbh, it looks absolutely fine indoors but won't suit high glare environments - at this price point it's never going to match up to some of the other premium range screens. I've had a play with the display models in Curry's and thought it looked fine - but then again I'm not intending to do any video or photo editing.

This is pretty much why I've bought one - it'll get most use from my wife for her work, where the CPU will chew through most productivity tasks with ease. I'll be using it as a more portable alternative to my GTX1070 gaming desktop - but not expecting it to provide anything like the same performance. As long as it runs older games at 1080p on lower settings, or medium/high settings on a lower res then that'll do me.

If only my Mrs would have accepted a 1060 based gaming laptop for her work device ^^

I saw it in Currys yesterday - at 100% brightness I felt that the screen was too dim. Reducing brightness levels the brightness fell away sharply. I felt it would be annoying looking at it constantly - shame as it is a nice looking machine otherwise.

Reviews tend to say that the screen is too dim.
Useful information you've included the description OP - I'll give you a hot for your efforts!
How does this compare to there aspire 6 obviously bo ssd but is 1tb and £100 cheaper?

They advertised the i5-7200U MX150 model at £499 - but then the units delivered were without the MX150 GPU. It still made for a decent price if you don't game at all, but for most of us it wasn't what we wanted. A couple of lucky people got a free upgrade to a 8250U MX150 model, but most people were just offered either £30-50 off, or 10% off their next order.

I'd still prefer the 8250U model to this one - the MX150 is a winner over the Vega 8 in a head-to-head because of it's discrete memory and separate power draw... but it's c.£200 more expensive at the moment.

Fair enough. I've already got this one on order, and for the amount of gaming I'm likely to do on it I can't be bothered anymore ^^

Good tip though.

This is better value, plus it's bigger 15.6" vs 14".
Quidco might not pay out the £30 as I think they exclude VAT which means minimum price of laptop has to be £623.75.

I made a purchase of £799.99 and it tracked on Quidco at £666.66
