This looks like it fits my bill for a decent, light laptop for under £500.

To get this price you need to get £30 off for new customer code, it seems to just need an email address though so shouldn't be difficult to get. And then they take 10% (£47) off at checkout; hope that makes sense. (Probably no cash back as using code but there's 3.15% at TCB if you want to try.)

Looks like it's £500 or more elsewhere. Also AO.com have 50% off on Office 365 - so can you can add it for £39.99 here which I think is reasonable.

Please let us know if there are better alternatives at this sort of price.

Blimey laptop/notebook prices have shot up. 256GB SSD would be better; its FHD though.
EDIT: e.g. this one is £310; admittedly not in the "lightweight" category and probably not FHD but better value IMHO

That HP is a lot for the money, I agree, especially with larger SSD but it is much bigger and heavier, with less memory, plastic not metal body and non-FHD screen.

Very good deal. How do you get £30 off

You should get a pop-up for New Customer when you go onto the site - put in your email address and it gives you a code on the screen and which then appears in your basket at checkout.

There's a review here: ultrabookreview.com/129…ew/

The HP suggested above isn't a patch on this ultraportable with an IPS screen that can fold back180 degrees. And it's got an i3 ....The HP is a clunker in comparison!!!!

I have had the Acer since December. No regrets whatsoever and the build quality exceeds this price point.

Looks alright but not for me as: I don't need of 2-in-1, no SSD, and it's quite a lot bigger and heavier.

If the fan quiet on the HP though? They can be relatively loud, and I have had problems with HP laptops in the past so try to steer clear of them. My current 2 year old Acer runs almost silently still.

Just what I would go for except would like 256gb. Nice size.
Similar price with a 256GB SSD and 3 year warranty.

Looks brilliant just what I am after, I was gonna buy this ebuyer.com/757…028 but now you threw that into the mix...choices...

Looks like the next model up is £510 if the same code is available, it has i5 with 256gb ssd.

That red Acer is tempting me now!

I got the red Acer ES15 now after all, but from AO.com where they have £20 off for new customers (go to site after deleting cookies and code was displayed) so it was £319, best specs for this screensize and price I could find with having 128gb SSD, descent processor check cpubenchmarks, the screen is a bit reflective, the SD card sticks out and doesn't go fully into it, they have it in black too on AO
