Saveonlaptops seems to have been replaced by Spotbuyer.com?? Not sure what happened there in the last 5 minutes.

yeah thats wierd.

nearly paid £399 for this a couple of weeks ago and am so tempted.

great deal

I'm in 2 minds as if i should order one as the collections just round the corner from me id be interested in what anyone who owns one has to say, the reviews seem to think that its a great machine and this model was aimed at business users that's why there's no HDMI out on in and its better made than the other timelines and had a new price of the best part of a grand at release.

Such a shame a hdmi port would have sold it to me

loopie

Its aimed at buisness so they have gave it other inputs.

some good features on this laptop such as n wifi and gigabit ethernet, but like other have said the hdmi would have be useful. Not sure if I would use the dedicated graphics as I don't play games and the processor can handle most of what I use a laptop for.

I hate that usb 3 is out and is it makes me want to wait for a ultralight/thin laptops with that on.

LOL. You saying business don't have flat screen TVs? Every single monitor / TV in my company is DVI. VGA is ancient tech.

So is this a bargain for general home use? not bothered about the HDMI Port

This is an absolute bargain but take note that it doesnt have a DVD drive

can someone let me know how this compares to Acer Aspire Timeline 3810TZG saveonlaptops.co.uk/pro…712

is this a better buy for the money and upgrading to windows 7 myself?

is there a major difference in the processor speeds etc, dont really understand these things

tks

neonitrix

Seriously tempted by this laptop. It received unanimously excellent reviews last year at well over twice the price AND with integrated graphics.

Yes. if you check out youtube, you can see that light gaming and even HD video editing is perfectly possible.

go through checkout and it says 'windows xp professional disks included"

It's a business-orientated laptop, so many manufacturers still off the option of "downgrading" to XP.

Vista on the machine, XP discs in the box.

If that's supposed to be a feature then I'm out. Whilst XP works it's old hat now. Vista SP2 and especially Windows 7 work a whole lot nicer.

Vista! Are you serious!?

Good deal but shame about the DVD drive. I'm on the look out for 13.3" laptop with a DVD writer but dont think they exist

just as a matter for interest if the xp discs are included how do you downgrade without a dvd drive can i load everything from the dvd onto a memory key and downgrade that way?

OO7

Vista! Are you serious!?

Yeah I am, whilst I don't like Vista, if you already have Vista SP2 I don't see a compelling reason to switch back to XP. If I told all my clients to sack Vista and go back to XP I'd be wasting their time and money.

This is really good.

Apparently this has switchable graphics too. So you can switch from the dedicated to internal graphics to save battery power.

The SU9400 is high end culv as well

Neonitrix - the 3810TZG you linked to looks like a better deal to me. The processors don't benchmark that differently, and this comes with Windows 7, which is a massive improvement over Vista. I cant comment of the build quality though.

Amazing deal, buying two!

Dell do one. The VOSTRO 3300. Its on there business site. I have the older VOSTRO 1320. Its been an excellent laptop and they seem better built than the normal ones.

Macbook / Macbook pro have a DVD drive - but I have not once actually used mine.

Selling the MBP for this! ALOT cheaper!

this is an amazing deal as the su9400 is the best ulv processor i think

plus a dedicated gfx card, better than the 1810tzg

thats if you can upgrade to win7 which most people can easily

Do them a favour and tell them to upgrade to 7 then.

also.."Free BullGuard Internet Security - 3 User Licence - 5GB Online Storage - 12 Months Subscription - RRP £44.95" not bad.

Its easy to upgrade to windows 7, so when buying a laptop the Operating system its running should have no effect whatsoever.

Tempted but the lack of DVD drive puts me off

Banned

The fact that there is no dvd drive I don't think should put people off. You never have to use a dvd drive now. On my 15.4" laptop that has a dvd drive that I have owned for 3 years I've used it like 5 times.

The only thing you need a dvd drive for is to install an OS. But even then you can install a OS from USB.

I don't think dvd drives are needed now. The fact that everything is digital, you can get almost everything from the internet and so you don't need a dvd drive. If you need to load stuff on the laptop use a usb.

Only reason you MAY want one is to rip CD's directly to MP3 in iTunes. This is why I originally got the OH one with a CD drive... never used it so she aint getting one next time!

Well there is the one on this thread - Acer 8371 saveonlaptops.co.uk/Ace…tml which is £329.98

Or this one Acer 3810TZG saveonlaptops.co.uk/Ace…tml for £369.97

The Acer 8371 has a better CPU, Bluetooth, Fingerprint reader, and is cheaper. But has no HDMI port and runs vista (easy to change though)

The acer 3810TZG has a slower CPU, no fingerprint reader and no bluetooth but has a HDMI Port and runs windows 7.

Other than that they are the same.

The other thing is that the screen on the Acer 8371 is Anti-Glare (not glossy) so you can see it outdoors better etc. The Acer 3810TZG has a glossy screen

So depends what you need.

Basically I'm thinking of purchasing and I would get the one on this thread the Acer 8371. Thats because its cheaper, better cpu. I can easily change it to windows 7 and I don't really need the hdmi port.

According to (Admittedly very good) reviews this only has a mono speaker. The specs could be lieing about stereo.
The switchable graphics may help you squeeze an extra 40 odd minutes of battery life out of this compared to the Aspire...

This model has an ugly dock connector on the side too, though it can be used to connect to a dock and get a DVI port and some extra usb ports when you're at your desk!

I'd go for this Aspire model for home/student use:
hotukdeals.com/dea…957
Reviews about build quality just as good as this, specs just as good.
Has HDMI and windows 7 as standard.
Looks a bit prettier too...
Oh but no bluetooth and (IMO useless) fingerprint reader...

Suppose it depends if these things are worth £40 to you.
