Has this got 4gb ram and 500gb Hardrive
will this notebook have Google play available on it? I have managed to reserve one but if no Google play my son will not be happy so not sure if this would be any good? I was originally looking at getting him the Asus t100taf if anyone can advise what would be better would be most helpful as I'm clueless. tia

i can see two versions 4gb 500gb abd 2gb 500gb..
Have HP stream & it is OK for very light use.
Needed to plug in USB stick to get updates
I guess this would be similar.
Excellent price if it's what you need but not for me.

Jacki - it's windows , so NO google play - these are basic laptops / netbooks - good for genral browsing and light office use, I have Office 2013 on my HP Stream (similar) there's not a lot of free space on it so a SD Card is advised for storing that wee bit extra, Libreoffice is free and a lot smaller than Office, just remember to uninstall all the bloat that comes with these.
plumberman - this model is 2gb ram and a 32gb hard drive only (eMMC - kinda like a ssd drive)
ps. Don't put Windows 10 on it (yet) it has rolling updates so all the space will be used up in no time, and you need a USB anyway cos there's not enough free space to install it
Don't buy this. The versions with regular HDDs are fine, I have two and once you get rid of the bloatware and/or install an SDD they are fantastic value and perform very well - I have no complaints running either Windows 8.1 or 10.

BUT the ones with the 32GB eMMC are very bad. Never mind the limited storage, it is the way the operating system has to compress and decompress system files on the fly many times in order to run because that is the only way the operating system it can live in what amounts to 16GB or so. As a result It will be very slow and you will certainly regret upgrading to Windows 10 because you will lose even more space. Trust me I've had one and it was terrible. Also do not be deceived by thinking you will have fast solid state storage - you wont - it is very slow eMMC storage very unlike SSD storage which is lightening fast!
Stock in Hailsham , east sussex
For anyone in the South east

This is a windows based laptop so will not run andorid apps and google play out of box. But yes you should be able to access "Google Services" including "Play" via Google's website.
I got this , it is actually an ultrabook - mine has the Quad atom processor and 4GB Ram . I paid £300 at currys at the time

This is a great price and will do for basic things for college and leisurely use . However the SSD and RAM will need upgrading to get more , good news is that this has around 4 screws and is very easy to open and change thinges

Good points
Excellent touch screen - responsive, fluid
Excellent Battery life - 6 Hours

Bad points
Screen a little on the small side
touch pad feels vague

Hi

Have a look at this

ebay.co.uk/itm…623?hash=item35edefb62f:g:E50AAOSwPhdU-KOQ

Although it's a refurb but better spec.
installing google chrome on this will give you a better web experience (with flash built in) but as these are OOS pretty much everywhere, there are other deals out there to be found, chromebooks are another option if you only need access to the internet. grumpyone is right, unless you are very tech savvy, these can be a bit frustrating to use due to their limitations, i have reformatted mine and installed only the essentials i use, not a substitute for a real laptop/pc but enough for most.

See 90Ninety's and other comments above. IF you help these laptops along by opening them up and replacing critical parts with faster ones then you can make a usable machine. But as delivered your son will likely find it too slow and frustrating. Waste of 100+ quid to my mind.

g7paul - nice spec on these , but they are really old laptops, will prob need new battery at some point and the gfx are somewhat limited, not HD, no usb3 no HDMi

I've reserved one for my lad (also 10). Perfectly fit for purpose as a laptop for homework, browsing etc, but not for gaming. Normally a 30day return on these I believe, never had a problem with Argos return
