That's a better CPU for sure. For me, it's very difficult to give you a clear opinion as I buy my Chromebooks from the USA, and therefore get much more for my money. For $350, I got a HP Chromebook x360 with an i5 and 8GB RAM. At the moment Chromebooks are in short supply and therefore the prices are inflated. If you can, give it a few months. Just PM me if you have any quesitons.

nev166

Do you think this for £340 is decent? https://uk-store.acer.com/acer-chromebook-514-cb514-1ht-silver-1

Masteryates

It's that dual core CPU that kills it for me. Fine for a machine costing £150, but I'd expect a minimum of the quad core N4200 for this £. I had an Acer Chromebook 15 with a similar screen and that aspect was top notch.

b1g1an

Prices on models at this level should plummet soon when the Lenovo Flex 5 makes it over here.

Wayne_Hardy

The n3350 CPU is dual core, I suppose if your spending this much then a quad core might be better. 14" IPS full hd touchscreen is more on the money though. If all you want to do is stream video, browse the net and use office apps then this would do that adequately.

yeah a minor difference, mostly to do with the range that the syncing works. it's not a huge deal but the monitors im looking at are only like £20 less then this and I would pay the extra for Full gsync

Tony_DR

Is there a difference? I thought nVidia were supporting freesync these days.

Azani

Is this fully Gsync or just a compatible freesync monitor?

Tony_DR

Most OLEDs cant reach 1000 nits and that do can only do so very briefly. Not really comparable to a monitor with real always on HDR 1000 or a QLED that has real HDR 2000+ unless you play in a dark room. Don't worry about any of this while you have a PS4. The best initial upgrade you could make to latency and frame rate performance would be buying an Xbox One X. Or a PC. If you really want to know the details, see: https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/asus-rog-swift-pg43uq-review.html

ModernFamilyUK

Thanks for explaining. I saw some of the higher end ones reach 1k. How much is the difference in input lag etc, I generally play PS4 on my tv and never really notice any lagging as such. What’s freesync/gsync?

For Xbox should be decent. Perfectly fine for casual gamers. Big Screen great refresh rate. I'd say for PC gaming you'd want QHD if going 27" and IPS panel would be the best if possible.

Stand is garbage you will need a better one. Everything else is subjective really. There is bloom but it's not terrible. Bright and clear image. Great response times, better than 3 VA panels I tried.

Draken21

There was an offer for the "1" model for £299 on Amazon a few days ago, the backlight bleed is quite impressive indeed. https://www.hotukdeals.com/comments/permalink/40697326

The panel is quite poor on this one with a lot of QC issues, very hit and miss. The response times are also rather slow compared to even VA models.

Depends on your graphics card, 144hz can show upto 144 frames rather than 60, unless your using a 2080ti to play at 4k there's no point going for 4k gaming at decent frame rates.

Yes, I've noticed the same. Weirdly enough, it looks like it's been removed from Acer's online store, if you check the list of monitors for sale. But the direct link still works ( https://uk-store.acer.com/acer-nitro-vg0-gaming-monitor-nitro-vg280kbmiipx-black) I managed to order one over the weekend, but my order is stuck at 'Payment Review' (confused)

Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop | PH317-52 | Black. Looking for a gaming laptop. Not a serious gamer. This looks like a reasonable deal, but will it do the job?
Adamo

I'm in exactly the same boat as you (or I was until I read up and did my homework!): If you're looking to game then 1660Ti is the minimum. You can find good offers at Dell Outlet (Topcashback), especially so if you e-mail them and ask for a first-time customer discount (10% off, at the bottom of the following link): https://www.dell.com/learn/uk/en/ukdfh1/campaigns/shop-outlet-deals I'm going for a 2060 or 2070 GPU, and i7-8750 or 9750 (8 and 9 is the generation/year, so the 9750 is the most recent one). Quality goes (in ascending order): 1650, 1660Ti, 2060, 2070, 2080. The 2080 is bonkers money. I also want a 144hz screen (so you can get 144FPS in games) and a 512GB SSD inside so I don't have to move things back and forward between a smaller (128/256) drive and the bigger one they usually pair one with (1TB, non-SSD). An easy way to find what you want is to select 6GB and 8GB on that Dell Outlet link in the Video selection, so it only shows you laptops with good GPUs (should be around 15-20). Here is what I would suggest: That is if you don't need the 512GB SSD like I do. It's not a 144hz display but the GPU is decent, RAM is good, screen size is what you want, and backlit keyboard. After VAT (*1.2) and minus 10% (*.9) it works out £993 delivered. Keep an eye on the outlet if you're looking for that SSD size and a better GPU, I reckon you can find something for around a grand. Edit: today they just put up a 14% off code: DONINSP001 Great stuff!

Thank you! Never thought at Surface, as I had no intention to spend more than £400-500 but when this deal came, I kind of started to think at it. Mostly for the form factor. I better take my mind away from it and keep an eye on the Zenbook from Currys, hopefully will go down in price to £500. Don't remember now, if the Surface are the ones made from that material that looks like a carpet but they give a fancy name to it, I will not consider it even at half price :D

plewis00

HP tried this a few years ago with their Forcepad and it was pretty unpleasant, if you tap you basically don’t notice anything different. The only other non-moving implementation I know of is Apple that ‘fakes’ a click with the Taptic Engine and it’s very good to the point you don’t notice. Remember it’s a Y-series 7th gen so it’s power efficient but quite underpowered compared to U or H-series. At this price, I would have thought the Surface Laptop was a better purchase though for speed, durability, screenand keyboard/touchpad quality.

benhawkins

I had no issue getting used to tapping, but everyone is different!

Kirbish

I got used to the non click touchpad really quickly to be honest, which was good as I had the same concerns after reading reviews. It is nice and responsive and I haven't had any issues with it.

sheffield788

Thank you! I had a look at the reviews and yes, it seems good built quality and metal, exactly how I want it. Shame they do not have finances available but I may try 4 months Paypal interest free to see if it works. I really like the ultra-thin factor. On my ultra-book, the touchpad started to fail, it drives me insane, I do not even know if it can be fixed. Noticed in the reviews this one has a non-click touchpad, which in theory appeals to me considering the issues I have with mine now. In the same time, some reviewers suggested a non-click touchpad is not a great experience. What is your opinion, please? Have you got used with it, do you see any difference when using this type? Thanks!
