I've been scouring the internet looking for a good deal on a 1060 laptop and found this. Please note this is a substantially better card than a 1050 and will play most games in ul… Read more

It would thrash a PS4 Pro at 1080p, handily. As an example I play Dirt Rally maxed out at around 90-100fps on my laptop, the most I can get on PS4 Pro is 60fps and (massively simplifying things here) that’s missing the fact that the Pc version has longer draw distances and greater vegetation detail. I play Steep on both PC and PS4 Pro and the difference in draw distance alone is insane It’s the same across tons of games. It’s things like environments being much more richly detailed, better population levels in RPGs, better smoke/dirt effects etc. Console gaming is great but once you move to PC you start to realise what you’ve been missing out on (and what you’ve been paying much more for

Don't know much about gaming laptops being a console gamer so I was wondering what a laptop with these specs could offer in comparison to a PS4 Pro as I might take the plunge. Say The Division 2 or Resident Evil 2, as an example. Would this laptop run it better than a PS4 Pro? Primarily I've been used to 30fps/60fps at 1080p

"The keyboard was like pressing on an omelette" (lol) Absolutely cracking comment, ahaha!

Sorry your right

Anyone interested in this should go to their local PC World to try the keyboard and trackpad out. I had a Nitro and had to send it back. They keyboard was like pressing on an omelette and there was a good amount of travel on the trackpad before it registered a click. Mine also had a very poor screen but I understand there has been a slight revision to the models in that time so might be a little better. The Nitro line is a world away from the Helios laptops. Obviously the price reflects that but make sure you're ok with the compromises.

Acer XV3 | XV273K 27" IPS 4K 144hz G-Sync Compatible HDR Monitor, extended warranty + potential 10% TCB £781.98 @ Acer

I should also mention that this XV273K screen has Fantastic image quality, I have been running it next to my MSI GT 60 2QD laptop which has a 4k screen I loved since I first got it, yet next to this new screen it's colours look somewhat dull by comparison. I honestly did not expect the XV273K to be so noticeably better than other 4k screens even though it has a professional quality screen with delta E of <1. A good treat for the eyes :)

Mine arrived Wednesday morning and really liking it so far. ( I could not run it on a high quality looking braided HDMI cable I had at my folks place which works fine on various TV's and a projector. Annoyingly I could not even get the menus to work/display while it was connected - the PC image did occasionally flash up for about 1 second. Another cheap looking HDMI cable I tried worked perfectly from my laptop + the menu system then displayed as expected ) A word of warning, out of the box the default brightness is set to 80 which is ridiculously bright, TFT Central measured it as 440 cd/m2 lol Most monitors are not even capable of getting this bright when maxed out. Honestly not surprising so many complain about excessive IPS glow on this screen when default is set so overly bright and they do no realise it. I turned mine down to about 20 and is much less harsh on the eyes and very little IPS glow compared to my last LG 27UD68P 4K screen. This was terrible at it's max brightness which is much less than theXV273K's default 80 setting, though also quite acceptable when turned down to a sensible brightness level. Saying that my XV273K does have a small amount of extra glow 3/4 of the way up the right edge for several inches when viewing a black background. I did not notice this until I searched for it and it is not so bad really. ( Honestly, WHY do high end PC monitors suffer this when not one IPS panel TV has this issue I have personally used??? ) Looking forward to getting back to my gaming PC, currently visiting family and on my laptop, so I can test this screen out for some high fps gaming ^^

That’s right

That's a 1440p panel, there are no other 4k high refresh rate options at this price. Sure if you are after a 1440p 144hz panel there are a quite a few options now and the one you linked seems quite decent.

Yet another imbalanced laptop with all the power in the wrong places. its like it skipped leg day. Cold.

Can that laptop really dissipate the TDP from a hexacore i9 plus the 1070? I just can't see the point in that combo. The i9 will be bottlenecked by the 1070 so what's the point it's overkill as said before i5 or i7 would be a better companion to a 1070 That i9 needs a 1080ti at least if not the 2080 & with it costing over £2000 too its just a silly spec for people with more money than sense.

Even with the 15% off this is still a poor deal, cold

I assume you are quoting me as I'm the only one to mention TCB, Sorry it didn't track for you. Usually the codes listed on TCB are approved. I'd wait a few days and then raise a claim as it should track.

So tempted. Good find

This is a great find for a proper 6GB GTX 1060 powered laptop - especially in this increasingly rare 17.3” size and it’s very understated for non-gamers if you don’t like all the gaudy stuff. Nothing wrong with an i5-8300H, it’s still a full-performance quad-core and that’s really all you need these days, hex-core is nice but far from the requirement. I still game on a dual-core machine, I could upgrade it but just don’t need to right now.

Specs on this monitor look great, shame about the flickering issue. I've messaged Acer support to find out if the issue will be fixed on the batch of monitors being sold currently but I have my doubts they will.

Acer have finally acknowledged the issue and there is a firmware update to solve it. But there's no way to update it yourself so all affected users have to send their unit back... We can only hope all new orders have this updated firmware

Ok I’m out

I got it last week from them for £315, seems they changed the code usable on it from IEM15 to IEM10. Unfortunately I'm having to send the one I got back. Freesync just flickers on both Xbox and my PC. Also I get random vertical lines flash up for a millisecond occasionally... Yeah. :/ Guess it's likely my replacement will be the same... Guess I'd have to push for a refund if it is.

£332 although cheap for a monitor of this spec is a lot of money to me. i would be willing to pay it but not knowing if it will definitely work with my Nvidia 1070 and some of the known issues posted above is stopping me fromimpuler buying this. suppose it back to the waiting for g-sync prices to drop for me

If the GT1030 appeals then you could save even more and get the XC-885.

You dont need Optane its a fad, your saving almost £300 so could update the GPU and PSU yourself and still be cheaper

You didnt say, the gt 1030 is not comparable as awful, optane is missing, power supply is only 300 watts and the case is far worse quality with poor airflow so not worth it

I told you the model TC-885 comes with GT1030 2GB GPU and after 10% topcash would be under £500

Did you buy a Google Daydream perhaps? Those are about £100.Google Cardboard you can buy for closer to £1. Major difference with these headsets (and the Vive/Rift) is they can run proper full PC VR games, instead of phone apps. Plus they have tracked motion controllers and headset motion tracking.

Umm no it isn't. VR with 3dof is still VR. There's very little point in having 6dof and tracking if you want to enjoy VR whilst sat down, or if you don't have a large room to use it in. Don't misrepresent your own opinion as fact.

Aside from the low res I'm still amazed by how good the PSVR is for the price point, surprised by some of the comments here. Just plug it in and it just works. As for tracking issues - I've not experienced this. Maybe down to light/dark environments? <shrug>
