I used to have a 17" Dell XPS gaming laptop, the screen was very good at 1080p. Now, I would expect 2K at least. However, I would swap 2K screen for 1080p, more RAM & higher refresh rate.

The display resolution of this machine for a 17.3" laptop is terrible in my opinion...

Nope, white rhinos are.

Sound is not loud enough. Battery runs down even when plugged in to charge. Takes forever to recharge. My lenovo p2 is faster. Lasts a good while watching vids with the brightness @ 66%. Usb socket needs a good usb cable with good locking catches for the plug.

How would this compare to an Amazon fire 10 hd?

Agreed, i've been looking at these for a friend, and searching specs etc, and every site seems to have a different take on what should be listed/reported, but as you said, as the manufacturer, they could present the information better! From what i can work out with this one, and i better be right! is it has a MicroSD slot, Max 128gb microSDXC card, it has a side microusb port for charging / data transfer, and an additional microusb port at the top under the little cover that is purely for data transfer User Manual is here... Manual/User Manual_Acer_1.0_A_A.pdf?acerid=635223449163050210

You would think if you were a manufacturer you would list the full spec. All tablets ideally should have an mini HDMI port, a USB port, and a micro USB port and a card expansion port/slot. All I can find /see is a micro USB!

I literally cant see the comparison between buying a laptop and a monitor? Oh i paid £1000 for this monitor 18 months ago? love it! 21:9 ultra settings/1440p for most games and low settings and 4:3 for csgo xD

You cannot even begin to compare gaming on a laptop to gaming on a screen like this though.

This is a great price, been looking out for this for a while, does anyone know what acer are like for returns/warrenty? thats the only thing putting me off. (skeptical)

Nice find OP, it took me a month to find the right laptop, and 14" deals are fewer than 15.6".

That looks like a great deal, especially since it's an i5 with a dedicated GPU for an extra 50.

How about this one?

Go for it, you're not going find another good premium laptop at this price with 2 year warranty, all metal build, Full-HD IPS , backlit keyboard and 8GB memory. Think Quidco offers 10% cashback too. All the online reviews rated this excellent.

OK if the cashback kicks in. Bit of a shame this isn't the model with the dedicated MX150 GPU, but if you don't care about doing any gaming... Edit - checked deal for the MX150 version, and it's £100 off the 8th gen i5. Not great as I've seen it as low as £600 elsewhere.

Amazing deal, especially with the 11% TCB. I'm considering taking the plunge. From what I read the 17" model has a much brighter screen than the 15".

There is a 17 inch version of the ASUS :)

Yep, unless you must have a 17 inch screen, the Asus is a better buy. Cheaper and with a better screen.

Unfortunately you can't upgrade storage easily on this model, which is a bit of a joke. Acer couldn't be bothered fitting a SATA connector nor HDD caddy in the HDD expansion bay.. so you need to first purchase the parts from Acer UK Spares (HDD BRACKET 33.GP4N2.002 ,HDD CABLE 50.GP4N2.004), disassemble the laptop and install to the motherboard. A bit of chat about it here :…133and instructions for fitting the SATA cable to the motherboard here…260 I'll be returning mine on principle and won't be purchasing any Acer products in the future. Yes, it appears the cashback doesn't include VAT unfortunately. If Quidco pays out, the total will come to £490.49 which is still a great price. I've just received despatch confirmation. Estimated Delivery: 8 May. It is coming from Poland.

Anything folks would recommend with a 13" screen? I missed the Dell Outlet deals earlier this week.

I completely agree with you. Just wanted to point out. Anyway the lower the better:p

Unless you play competitive FPS seriously (CS Go for example) it's not something that matters and unlikely something you will actually be able to physically notice anyway. Also keep in mind they only advertise grey-to-grey times, realistic delays will be nothing like that for both panels so don't ever use it as a reliable reference.

I tried the IPS version, terrible orange glow in the corners like all 27" 1440p high refresh IPS screens. I have the TN version instead, which I got for £400 on Amazon warehouse and have been very happy with it.

Ips version has 4ms delay time though

I've provided two separate links above for the 1440p IPS version.

Average specs. Awful case.

Pretty poor IMHO, been far better deals posted here in recent months including two machines with GTX1070s for less than this and definitely seen GTX1060 systems cheaper. GPUs may be scarce but you can still do better IMHO...

What a con. I bought a G3-605 for £120 and just spent under 300 for that exact same graphics card. 16GB ram 256 SSD and a 3TB stock hdd. I think you would save loads if you did the same in comparison.

Fair price, but not a hot deal. Could save few more pounds build own machine with same specs. Unless you want transformer tower case ;) Heat for your time, the price is just OK.

Exactly a reasonable price for a pre-built machine. The rough price i would expect to pay for similar spec, pre-built. But it not a good deal or hot.

I have a HP chrome book which I got from eBay argos for about 130 two years ago... Excellent for browsing and basic works. Quick start up. Window laptop takes a while to start up, and also can hear the fan continously on the sub £300 laptops.

The low spec version is fine, we use for a project helping people get online, but can regularly be got for either £199 or even £179. If this one does work out at £214 and is the hd 4gb version then pretty good deal. If. Worth a mention the hd version is actually a bit difficult to look at if you have aging eyes as the resolution makes text a bit too small for comfort, even if you adjust the settings!

What I said is based on my own experience, it is a fact and you got no rights to say the contrary to me. When I do not know I do always ask because I always love to learn and I do not say rubbish to others and just to be few steps ahead, like you do. I cannot think about you being better than me because of the possibility of you speaking/writing better English, I am a foreigner and you cannot base you totally stupid affirmation based on grammatical errors. An intelligent person would first of all ask what my particular problem was instead of trying to make fun of me. I do accept when I do things wrong and I also always accept a lot of sense of humour but not the way you do, it is also nice when people tries to help instead. If you were a successful person you would not definitely say that and there is a reason for your behaviour and the way you act, surely that helps you a lot with your poor life because it makes you feel better than the others but you do not know who the others are in reality and how much better than you they could be on any other task. You love to be ahead of everyone else, there is no other explanation and an intelligent person would avoid acting the way you do. Finally, sorry for more grammatical errors and for the funny way my writing might sound to you but your intelligence should be good enough to compensate and understand what I wrote, I hope. If you do not, just try to help instead. Have a good day PS: Nor sure why you come on HUKD, your contribution to it is very but very poor as I can see, lol

Acer sent me 5 faulty monitor panel replacements in a row even though they all passed a qc check from their repair team. It's only when something goes wrong you realise they don't really care.

Overlooking the grammatical errors I usually find that it is the 'noobs' who propagate unfounded subjective opinion as fact.

Yes, it's an expired deal that reached 475 degrees, so certainly anything other than C-O-L-D

True although TCB and Quidco are just huge affiliate sites where you get a bit back. Really grates me given Quidco is supposed to be 100% cashback. They aren't exactly short of a few bob and take a look at the dividends the directors of TCB receive.

True that. Though, I think most have the sense to back out and use Quidco / TCB for many purchases. With that said, HUKD must rake it in with Amazon referrals.

They had 15% off for laptops above £600 for a week or so this month. This will probably be back again.

just like to say ive had this monitor before, have the x34a now but ive also had the first ROG monitor & the IPS version. I would rate this monitor above the both. the Rog versions have annoying faults the TN version also the IPS has faults that can only be fixed by sending it to Asus for a firmware flash, also the power brick died twice with the Asus monitors.
