Because millions of people still own cd's?

CDs are still much better sound quality than an MP3 or Spotify stream - which is what most people have replaced them with. Whether this system is good enough to actually hear the difference, I don't know - reviews say the sound is bass-heavy.
20w per channel is decent. Better than a wireless speaker at this price if not moving it

Looks good for the price.

Was considering the Bose Soundtouch/Sonos speakers but this may be another option.

Don't really need the speakers to move around much as mainly for living room so this should do the job, provided sound quality is decent.
Can this be used as a TV sound bar

Seems like it could be a good TV sound unit. With the bonus of bluetooth

Chromecast Audio should work. Just plug the 3.5 mm lead on the Chromecast Audio into the Aux-In input of the mini unit.

You need to be looking at models with USB & optical, but without a CD....

Apart from with no USB port to power the Chromecast you will also need a wall wort which will either need to be left on or turned on/off when not in use. Much tidier if the Amp has USB.

True, reviews for this unit are not great either. Though does appear to have the option of streaming your music from a computer on your network.

it's got an aux-in, so Chromecast Audio will work with the wee lead included in the box.

See my previous reply regarding USB, also optical has been a standard for so many years and offers better audio quality so yes you can use good old fashioned 3.5mm analogue but you shouldn't need to.

I't won't compare to a "real" hifi speaker like Sonos B&W or Bose.
The 20 Watts RMS power rating is pie in the sky as well.
Already bought from Peterborough.I will return the item.I am thinking is been refurbished or used:marks on it,speaker cover missing.Sound clear ,but not so loud or amazing

My mum... and that's about it still quite nice to see it kept alive I think. Keeps the less tech-savvy members of the household happy!

people who dont want there ownership switched off

i like the look of this got some cds but the internet radio and dab is what it will be mosty used for unless theres anything better around the same price ?
Edited by: "ijwia" 29th Jul
Dont think the extra cd quality will matter on this system. But people still play cds so that is useful.
Chromecast: Would be better on this system to use analogue 3.5mm rather than optical digital as the chromecast does not have a bad dac built in.
Lol at the peraon who said sonos and b&w soundbars were "real" hifi.
Argos Aka No Name - Acoustic Solutions for 99.99£ hell no this will be terrible had Sharp from ebay outlet for half that price same functionality sounded flat like a pancake. Mini's are terrible

Looks the same digital display as the high end Roberts internet radios but without the usb MP3 playback and Spotify connect. Still looks to be a good price and it has Bluetooth for all that so definitely a good buy.

Well done, these Denon micro systems are best buck for you money you can get, they ever keep the value for years to come.

"real" HIFI and Bose. Lol. Don't belong in the same sentence
Don't confuse cheap with good value in this case. If you want a micro system, search for Denon, Onkyo, Panasonic etc. Pref. Denon.

A system that costs £200 or so more (once you add decent speakers) will be better? Shocker.
extonjoe29/07/2019 09:00

Can this be used as a TV sound bar

On my new(ish) LG I had to buy a hifi with optical input as that was the only thing that worked to get tv sound to play externally. Someone also mentioned using bluetooth from tv but then you will get a slight delay between audio and video that will drive you crazy.

You would need to add a set of half decent speakers to the price of this anyway so brings it well above £200.

This comes with speakers for £99, the Denon one you linked to doesn't, by the time you get some, theres going to be roughly a £200+ price difference. Of course it will be better. No ones going to buy a set of decent speakers to add to this as its low end stuff.

You cant call them speakers. my point is if you have a decent set of speakers as I already had then the Denon at £150 is far superior and will last a lot longer.

Or you could have the USB charger on a 2gang extension and plug this into a smart plug... so both amp and Chromecast fire up when you yell "Alexa turn on living room tunes"
