I bought "Acronis True Image 2015" last year. When the 2016 version came out, my version automatically updated to it. It is a good product but I also use the free "EaseUS Todo Backup Free 9.2.0.1" and they both do as good a job. The problem I have with Acronis is that it can only be installed on one computer unless I buy more licenses. EaseUS can be installed on multiple computers. Acronis backs up a few minutes quicker though. Both programmes do a restore easily enough I've found. Hope this info helps someone.

i found it was just the key/serial no you bought and it let activate the 2016 version with it six months ago.

I now use Macrium Reflect Free version, link below.

Paragon Hard Disk Manager 15 Pro is probably the best disk management product (espcially the linux bootcd) though its not in this price range, especially if you are working across Windows, Linux and Mac. Anything Linux based, supports Windows well because it get underneath the MS Operating system, like a car jack. It doesn't need to know what its working with to shift it around.

Good software, but Paragon Backup and Recovery 16 is free at the moment

Just gave it a go.

What I hate is when backup programs use a proprietary file format.
Is it too much to ask to just make a duplicate of whatever I want backed up?

Or save your money and use Macrium reflect?

I used to use acronis, but now use macrium and find it pretty good for a free bit of software. Partition wizard, which is free too, can be used if you have any issue resizing your partition, eg if you are replacing a HDD with a smaller Ssd, as macrium won't resize partitions

Have used Terabyte Image for Windows for some years.

£20 with a 30% coupon, covers 3 PCs for personal use, good support forum. Not THE most user friendly but pretty bulletproof.

Paragon for £0 looks like a steal though, should cover most people's needs very nicely.

Another vote here for Paragon

I like Aronis as it allows you to easily transfer one image to another hard drive regardless of differences in size of drive. Keeps things simple for idiots like me

If you have a Seagate/Maxtor HDD in your system (or can attach one - any old Seagate/Maxtor HDD will do) then you can download/use Seagate DiscWizard which is basically Acronis True Image, although it may not have all the bells & whistles that you get when you buy Acronis True Image.

If you only need software for making an image/backup of a drive/partition and managing partitions it's fine. I've been using it for years and never had a problem with it. It's saved my skin on a number of occasions!

What's the pro's and cons of this vs Paragon, Macrium etc? I've got a laptop with a 128gb ssd that would be handy to have backups (I'm currently using the Windows system image function) but I'd also like to be able to backup the photo's on my PC's storage drive - I've been backing it up but only after I've edited things and I've accidentally deleted things and that's been mirrored on the backup drive! I bought a cheap WD My Cloud drive but have yet to use it...
