Yes, it's a 'Bike Shaped Object' and no, it won't come anywhere near satisfying a bike enthusiast, but this is going to be much better than the average supermarket/Sport Soccer kit and should do a decent job for a big kid of any age. The fact is that if you're only spending this much you'd probably be better off with a basic bike with no suspension, etc. but some people have to have it all!

Decent reviews for what it is too.

to be honest i've learnt hard way what you pay for a bike is basically what you get!!!!! Bought cheap bikes in past but when you need then fixing costs more than original bike false economy really

Spend the money on a secondhand bike with no suspension. waste of money long term.

Just as a cheap bike for occasional use this seems ok. You pays yer money and take a chance. You do get what you pay for. Wouldn't vote it hot though. Shame HUKD don't have a "warm" vote for those things that drop inbetween, so not voting either way. Don't know where they get their RRP from though.

so why mention you posted deal at dearer price and are therefore voting cold?????

Bought my son a similar model a few months ago. Build quality and parts were very good for the price.

Thanks. Always useful to get some real user feedback, not just the usual armchair expert stuff. I don't have one but your comment seems to confirm that it is likely be better than the usual supermarket stuff. The Raleigh brand may have been devalued in recent years but I think it still means something at the cheap end of the market. You also have the benefit of the Amazon service and returns policy (compare that with Sport Soccer!).

I'd usually suggest Decathlon for a decent, well assembled, budget bike but even they don't come down to this price level. They'll sell you a very basic bike for around £100 but some people (teenagers?) just have to have the full sus, etc. and not every parent has £500 to splash.

These are good value for the kids. From my experience at work give them a £50 bike or a £500 bike it is still going to be a pile of twisted metal in under a year.

Got my daughter something similar a couple of years back, yes it's heavy compared to my GT mtb but it does the job and she loves the full suspension look. So far I've had to replace the gear shift (£8 ebay for a Shimano) &...........that's it. If, when she grows out of it, it's a pile of junk I'll get half my money back just by weighing it in, bonus!

If you're wanting something that will last a long time then go for a decent name brand, otherwise these kind of BSO's are fine if setup correctly (any idiot can do that in less than an hour, ignore the youtube videos telling you otherwise) and looked after.
