Who really needs to have dozens of the biggest install size games on their console at the same time? I just don't understand why people are so desperate to expand the storage of the PS5. It baffles me even more that people are willing to pay more than half the price of the console itself to do so!

Game sizes and the amount of people that still have the speeds of dial up is my guess..

I'm suprised this is being voted down that much? I can't find a cheaper 2TB PS5 compatible drive myself? You may think its a lot of money to spend, but as far as i can see it IS a bargain. Hey-ho

Well considering the size of some games, say you have a few friends and you play different games with each then its easy to have multiple games already installed and then you might have 1 or 2 solo games your playing. I dont have many installed on mine but have keep deleting and installing when different mates play different things. Luckily I have 1gb broadband but my mate only has 45mb so he needs have them installed ready for different game nights

I'm actually enjoying having the limited amount of space on the ps5. Means I won't fill it up with games that I won't play and will just sit there taking up space. If I need to free up space, I either delete it if I have platinumed it, or copy it off to an external drive if I might play it again. I will upgrade it eventually, but no way am I paying £200 for an expansion drive. I will wait till they come down to a more realistic price point. I'm in no hurray

If the PS5 could actually hold dozens of the biggest size games there wouldn’t be a need for things like this. Unfortunately it can’t.
Usable storage capacity on my PS5 shows as 667.2GB.
The install sizes of some games are ridiculous. These are all noted from my PS5.

COD Cold War: 175GB (not inc the campaign)
    COD Vanguard: 97GB
    Borderlands 3: 90GB
    FF7 Remake: 85GB
    MK11: 85GB
    Ghost of Tsushima: 60GB
    Returnal: 58GB

That’s just over half a dozen (7) games and the storage is almost full.

Bought mine before xmas while it was around £205ish, as a gift to self, opened it after xmas to get it installed....There was no drive inside, just the heatsink!!! Wasn't best pleased. Started the returning, opting to get my money back as decided to keep with SSD for now after this faff....but I also had a mobile phone (ordered 3 of the same/different colours) which had no phone in the box too, so half expecting them to cast shadow of a doubt over me :/ The phone itself I can easy prove, as the box weight on the parcel label was impossible to have a phone into it, at the time I got onto chat and they sent a new one out immediately. This time round though didn't go onto chat and requested a refund, so probably have to chase this up as seems to take them ages when try for a refund instead of credit balance, which not looking forward to

Because it's a heck of a lot more convenient having a 100GB+ game downloaded, than not having said game downloaded, especially when not everyone has an ultrafast internet connection.

A PS5? Had one since launch. Never even gotten close to filling it up. I have 19 games installed including several big ones e.g. FFVII remake, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Doom Eternal, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Kingdoms of Amalur and Oddworld Soulstorm. I still have about 150GB left. Granted I don't really play multiplayer games, but I just don't think many people are playing multiple big install multiplayer games (like CoD, Destiny 2, MK11) simultaneously whilst also dipping into several single player games. I get having a few installed to have the next one ready or in case you don't like one, but the existing storage is plenty big enough for that.

You've outlined the absolute worst case scenario, most games (even AAA) are not 80-100GB. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart = 33GB, Demon's Souls = 53GB, Spider Man: Miles Morales = 54GB, Sackboy: A Big Adventure = 30GB, Assassin's Creed Valhalla = 40GB. Even so, why would you need all 7 of the games you mention installed at once? Is anyone really bouncing between all of those all the time? Or getting through their content so fast that they can't start downloading the next one when they're nearly finished? Or have such sluggish internet that it takes more than a day to download a big game? Even with a slow 10Mb/s download speed, it would take 12h to download a 50GB game.

A tiny minority of games are >100GB. Also, more storage doesn't improve your internet speed! If you have slow internet, plan the next couple of games you might want to play and download those ahead of time? When you've nearly finished one, start downloading the next one?

These aren't the days of dial-up. Even the most basic broadband (which pretty much everyone at least has, especially those shelling out for new technology like current-gen consoles!) tends to be above 10Mb/s. Heck, the UK average now is 51.5Mb/s, so the average person can download a 50GB game in 2.5h. Is that really too long to wait/plan ahead for, such that spending north of £100 to expand storage is warranted?

Other than 'I simply like clogging up my storage with games I'll probably never play', I just don't get the logic. Hell, I crammed my PS4 with games just because I had a 1TB drive - soooo many games I never even touched (and I played about 200 games across the life of the console).

Those games you've listed are not the "dozens of the biggest install size games on their console at the same time" you were talking about in the beginning.

I named the games that I have installed. Guess that confirms what I thought, I am the worst case scenario
I hadn't included other 100GB titles like Last of Us 2, Division 2, RDR2, AC Odyssey (inc all expansions), Destiny 2 etc... Obviously they are not installed, because they cannot be.

I do bounce between games, and I do it regularly enough that only having 672GB is actually restrictive for me. The functionality to add more usable storage capacity is useful for people like me. My internet tops out around 25Mb/s. Deleting and redownloading would regularly use all the bandwidth and negatively impact the rest of my family trying to watch netflix or play an online game.

I missed the "these are all noted from my PS5" sentence. I thought you were just listing some of the biggest games!

Yes I guess you are the worst case scenario! Seems you have significantly below average internet speed and lots of demand on your connection. So sounds like your particular set of circumstances do make storage space valuable!

I guess the concept of deleting and redownloading games is kind of alien to me. With very few exceptions, once I've finished a game, I delete it and never play it again. Also bouncing between multiple different single player games is also alien to me, I'd lose track of what's going on in each game!

I guess horses for courses applies here. I just think the vast majority of people have a perfectly good horse for their course but spend a big chunk of cash to staple a second horse on when they don't need it!

Lots of friends with varying tastes in games. When my friends are available to game I want to play, not spend precious game time re-installing & updating when they might only have a couple of hours spare!

And it's back upto £298.13 but with a selectable 24% off voucher (valid until 9th Jan) bringing it down to £226.58. The Adata S70 Blade 1TB and 2TB have both bounced around for a while between a lower price and a higher price that includes a limited time discount code to bring it down to somewhere around the previous lower price.
The 1TB works out at under £115 with the 30% voucher it has just now.

It's probably because it was £205 with a heatsink last month. Obviously no time travel but it will make people think it isn't cheap
