Will I need a plumber to fit this, or would a pipe cutter and a brain do the trick?

If you're a competent DIYer then it should be straight forward to do!

That depends on the brain and how well co-ordinated it is with the hands.
wondering how much resistance this will put on the pump?
There are lots of cheaper filters on Ebay . There is no logical reason to think this one is better.

The Boiler-m8 Defender-2 looks just as good and as easy to fit for under £43 delivered. In fact in many ways its better:
twin seals for less chance of leaks
rotatable so you can also fit on horizontal pipework
full bore isolation valves ( so it does not restrict flow )

You'll need to drain the central heating system to fit, then add inhibitor and re-pressurise.

It stops the water from rusting the insides of the radiators. If rust is allowed to build up it can damage the boiler and cause pin hole leaks in the radiators. I personally wouldn't run a central heating system with no inhibitor in it.

I have just had one of these fitted to my new boiler installation. Great price - voted hot.

thanks for the response. will have to get some youtube videos to see how its done. is it supposed to be done yearly?
Edited by: "EN1GMA" 28th Feb
Yes it is recommended to clean the filter annually and it is fairly simple to do. The filter has isolating valves and is supplied with a special spanner for removing the filter. It can be rinsed under a tap. If you register the product on the adey website within 30 days they extend the warranty from 2 years to 10 years

If you fit the magna filter you can put the inhibitor into the filter bowl. It's a lot easier than putting it into the rad.
10% off with code TRADEPRO or a few quid cheaper if you haggle with Travis Perkins.

I don't know anyone who has one of those. The gas fitter than installed my boiler swears by the magnaclean filters.

Magnaclean are quality filters, there are others on the market but these seals last along time.

How easy is it to retrofit a magna clean pro 2 to an existing magnaclean 1 (red label) as the 2 connections are slightly offset??

They're a brass unit and really sturdy. Same with the Spirotech.

Spent years repairing leaks on Magnacleans so they're not at the top of my favourite list. They're one of the better built plastic ones, and the magnet is almost unrivaled for the amount of magnatite it pulls out, but they're just too leaky for my liking.

Which filter would you recommend?
Anyone recommend a good pipe cutter? the pipes are close to the wall and the cutters seem to need to rotate around the pipe, from what what I can see anyway...

Spirotech or Fernox Omega just for pure build quality. You can get the Fernox Omega with additional valves for even easier servicing of them, and you can also dose your system with any of the express variety of chemicals.
The Fernox Omega with valves and chemicals are regularly sold for around £86 including VAT from Plumb Center.

When you were repairing those leaks were the Magnacleans not the early version with red shut off valves. I’ve replaced leaking red valves with the later black version and found them to be trouble free.
They mainly were yeah, but I've also had problems with the black valves, seals, lid seals and so on.
They never feel sturdy when removing the lid to clean the magnet.
The Spirotech and Fernox Omega also double as a drain off point which is another positive.
