Had this a few years now for infrequent use. All the bits are rusty and I've oiled them a few times but it's all held up well and it's quality stuff

A reminder you can have these swapped out for brand new ones without a receipt if any are badly corroded.

I’m thinking of grabbing this, but can’t decide between the 100 or 175. I feel that the 100 is much better value without much overlap in socket sizes. I’m struggling to see how it would be worth twice the price. Maybe the 100 set, plus a set of ratchet spanners would be the way to go.

One thing to consider is weight - if you're taking the tools to the job then all those extra bits are adding a lot of heft. Not an issue if you're not moving them though!

Are these overkill for a diy guy who wants to learn basic car maintenance?
    Ziom's avatar
No, they're not overkill because these will last you a lifetime (as long as you won't lose some pieces).
Always invest in the best gear you can afford it.
    Buy cheap=buy twice.
    Speaking from experience.

Nice, did their free "halfords motoring club" for a further £5 off. Just got my first car 2 weeks ago, now my first socket set

If you have works perks set up there are more discounts too. Usually around 5-7%

Yeah mine is 8% got lucky

With regards to the 175 set, wouldn't it be cheaper to source the tool sets individually from a reputable brand? Seems a lot of the 175 is used as a filler?

£44 to sign up to Halfords Premium, but you get an MOT voucher - you probably have a car that will need an MOT sooner or later. This then gives you a £10 voucher and an extra 5% off. Stacks with the DEAL10 code and the initial 25% off. Total 35% off, minus £10 voucher. (edited)

Wish I did this now as I do have an MOT due in 2 months too haha damn it

Do we think this may go cheaper any time?

    Any time?! (edited)

I bought the Black set a few years ago, mistake!
The look nice but don’t hold up to any use
They rust easily and the black wears off.

Ordered 100 piece, thanks OP. Heat!

Realistically does anyone use the long reach bits ? I feel like they are just fillers. Wondering if this is worth it or if I should just buy a 1/4 or 1/2 ratchet set
    CJones's avatar
Inlet/Exhaust manifold studs, some battery clamps, any nut wound onto a long thread where access is too tight for spanner, recessed bolts where extension bar is too wide. I also use long reach sockets as a mini extension in tight spaces to protect knuckles! Basically, you don’t need them until you need them! (edited)
