Looking for a fast desktop pc for video editing and occasional gaming and came across this new pc with a 12 month warranty. The same pc in PC World/Currys and Dixons is £749.99, a saving of £256.02. Seems a big difference for the same machine.

I looked at the Argos Ebay pc over a week ago when on offer and was put off by the graphics card and also having an AMD processor, I thought the new Intel i7 on the Advent was a better spec.

The i7-2600 processor normally retails for £220 on its own.If you bought the components individually it would cost this - it's now ready built, comes with warranty, plus you are getting Windows thrown in.

Thats what I thought,I've also looked at barebone systems and when you total up the savings the Advent seems a good buy, My first pc in the early naughties was an Advent, paid a lot back then but I must say it did run okay...why are people put off by the name 'Advent', they can't all be bad!

We had a couple of Advent laptops, the build quality on them was appalling. One died after a few months and was replaced, the replacement went after another 18 months or so. The other lasted maybe 2 and half years. Fortunately neither was my own.

Advent seems to be PC World's own brand stuff, I now think of them as Smartprice computers.

Any Advent desktop pc owners out there who can recommend them as being a stable purchase.

Ticks all the right boxes, except for one, brand name, have owned two Advent PC's/Laptops, in the past, and they have all been high on spec, but the performance is always below par, gave up on them when the last PC I brought from them, was slower than the PC I had for a year, and it was meant to be twice as powerful.

where does it say it is the core i7 2600? , i cant see it, so could it be an older i7?

Ordered one to replace an Advent desktop I bought in 2004 and is still in use today.

Me too. I have owned an Advent since around the same time. Only problem was a power supply that went. Replaced it and it has been running fine. I have outgrown the 120gb disk and USB 1.0 connections now and need something newer. Considerable saving over the shop price & 12 months warranty.

If you check the spec details on the Currys/PC World website you will see the same model is like for like details of the Ebay outlet one, same graphics, hard drive size, etc; It does mention i7 2600 on the official Currys/PC World websites but not on the ebay outlet one, but it does say Processor Clock Speed: 3.4Ghz which is the same as mentioned beside the i7 2600 details. I would presume to confirm it was an i7 2600 on offer on the ebay outlet would be to ask the seller a question and see what response you get,but still worth a gamble.

anyone noticed the bit where it says "Monitor Weight: 9 kg" ???

If you change the title to focus on the good points it will get more recognition as at the moment what it shows is: Advent, PC World, Currys, eBay and Performance which are really underselling it.

Something like: ‘Advent Desktop PC, i7-2600 3.4GHz Quad Core, 8GB RAM, 2TB HDD, Radeon HD 6670, PCWorld/eBay’ would help.

Great spec for the money and whilst I’d be wary of an Advent laptop for desktops I don’t think the brand name is so important.

I contacted them to check on various things... here is my message and their response:

Dear currys_pcworld,I have 3 questions about this item:1) Can you confirm … Dear currys_pcworld,I have 3 questions about this item:1) Can you confirm that the processor is an i7 2600 as listed on the regular Currys website for the DT1313 ( http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/advent-dt1313-desktop-pc-black-10553865-pdt.html )2) Can you confirm that the system is supplied with Windows 7 despite the fact that the Currys listing mentioned above states Windows Vista?3) Can you confirm whether a monitor is supplied with the system? I would not have thought so but the listing does state "monitor weight 9kg", which is a little surprising!

So that's good. Latest Sandybridge i7, 8GB RAM, decent if not top-spec gaming graphics card... going by the specs alone this is a really decent deal - this kind of spec is snapped up immediately when Dell post something similar on their outlet site. But with Dell you get - well, a Dell; with this you get an Advent. But as Realblender says, the foxconn mobo is a good sign... so if you're in the market for a high-spec desktop and aren't worried about overclocking or gaming at the highest settings, this is perhaps worth a punt? No personal experience with Advent myself though.

Thanks philomene for your reply with the extra added information. I'm looking to buy one if they have stock, still looking around the web for a similar deal which is not an Advent brand but I can't find a thing near the price...soooo tempted with this one! Would you know if this would be okay for Hi-DEf video editing?

Didn't spot the Currys website contradicting itself on the operating system, your on the ball my friend!

Does anyone know if this has an SD card reader?

I ordered one and it might be delivered today. Looking at the official Currys website Advent DT1313 it does say that it has a memory card reader, the ebay outlet says no,but I think they are both the same model but I can confirm when I receive my order. At the time of this post their are 9 pc's left at this low price.

PC delivered, just opened the box so far and it is okay. The official box had been opened and re-sealed. The pc looks brand new inside with no marks. Protective sealent strips in place on unit and seem not to have been disturbed. Inside is a welcome pack containing a quick setup guide, separate Troubleshooting and Recovery Manual. Two blank DVD's to make operating system recovery disks. A Dirt 3 game voucher code. Not shown on Currys photos the following:- The PC on top has two USB's/micrpohone/headphone sockets and a Power on/off button.

On the front of the PC is card reader -SD/MMC/MS. A DVD+/-RW-DL Drive and one empty expansion bay door/enclosure.

The photos on Currys website show more connection details on the rear of the pc and it is the same model as the Currys website the DT1313, and this model received today has Windows7 64bit installed.

Wireless mouse/keyboard (incl.batteries)/power cable/wireless wi-fi dongle. All sealed like new.

Now going to spend the rest of my day setting up and checking out my new PC.

I couldn't see anything near to this spec within my budget so I've gone for it -hope it will deal with some HD video editing. Can't believe this deal hasn't got more heat (as a previous post said: description under sells the good points) - anyway I spotted it so many thanks for your effort Wowhats.

I'm glad you took the plunge,I'm typing this message from the new Advent DT1313 @£493.97 (a real bargain, bargain!) I purchased it mainly for video editing. As with all new pc's it takes a while to set up,especially coming from an old XP Pentium4 with 1GB Ram/2.4Ghz a very slowwwwwwwwwwww machine. Plugged in my Full HD camcorder which just stopped and spluttered on the old PC and .....and it was absolutely fantastic on the Advent, played like a real smooth gem. So now looking forward to video editing BIG TIME!

I think this Advent is brand new,it doesn't seem to have been used at all. So if you purchased the exact machine from Currys store or website you would have been £256.02 worse off! The onboard DVD-RW is a Pioneer 219L. For an i7 processor so far I am very pleased and it's also very quiet.

Any good for gaming?

Loading Battlestations Pacific(PC) right now as i type this message,I will let you know when it's up and running.

Just to add, game loaded and played flawlessly. Very nice smooth graphics and quick response to controls, now off to bed.

I have purchased one of these as well. Yet to set it up, but it was delivered unopened with the original seal in tact. The contents are exactly as Wowhats describes. The cardboard box was a bit worse for wear, but the packaging inside the box provided loads of protection. As per a previous post, nearly £250 off the same PC at PC World, and whether its a Advent or not, £250 off what you would pay in the shop has to be a bargain ! Just purchased a new 23" LED TV that will double as a monitor (saved £110 on that) and Office 2010 for £8.95 through the Microsoft HUP (Home User Program) scheme at work, so all in all I am very pleased with my setup for a shade under £700 !!

Glad your pleased with the deal Powellieal. I've had my Advent running now for a couple of days, and yes like you I also purchased a new 23" LED HD monitor for £89.99 off HUKD (not as posh as yours by the sounds of it).

The Advent is exceptionally fast, it's like coming from an old Reliant Robin driver to a new Ferrari driver! If you total up the parts separately off Scan or Amazon your looking at £700+ to build from scratch. My box also had crush damage at the top but like you mentioned the Advent was well protected inside. Windows Experience Index read out as follows: Processor = 7.6/Memory Ram = 7.6/Graphics = 7.4/Gaming Graphics = 7. High marks except for the hard drive at 5.9 all read on a scale of 1 - 7.9.

Good luck with your new Advent PC.

By the way Dell make the same spec pc but with the addition of a Blu Ray reader for £899.00 Dell XPS 8300
