Is tethering it to the Blade not easier/cheaper mate?

Thanks - heat from me

Just recieved mine - flashed it with modaco and very happy with it!

1 left on display in Blackpool Currys.digital

Anyone had experience with one of these and an ipad?

I have had one of these for about a month now, I agree with the above link about modding it from the site posted.
I have also added a carbon fibre protection backing, cost about £4 from ebay.
I tether it to my iphone and use my 3 mobile all you can eat data
The only down thing about it is the viewing angles... You cannot see the movies etc that you might wanna watch on it if you are not in front of it.. Yes I know that sounds stupid but some people have been complaining about that.
Stops nosy parkers if you ask me when you watching some adult movies on the train. LOL

I have an iPad and got a vega for my daughter for Christmas. It's so good I was tempted to sell the iPad and buy a vega!

One thing is to put the modaco mod on as soon as you get it. The difference it makes is incredible, at least till honeycomb comes out for it.

forget all the nonsense. This is what you want

7" tpuchscreen (1024x600)
32GB internal memory
1GB ram
Micro SD slot
5Mp camera with auto-focus

if the modaco mod is so much better then why doesnt it just ship with it?

Damn, that HTC looks sweet.

The microsd support is what puts it over the iPad imo.

Just wish it had a dual core processor. Wonder is the 1.5GHz single core can compete with the 1GHz Dual Cores out there...

Edit: looks like HTC want around £600 for that tablet... oO

Thats like asking why iphones or ipads don't get shipped jailbroken.....as good as most of these things are they can be improved one way or another.

The HTC looks pretty good, need to sort out their batteries though.

For anyone that might be interested, if your planning on catching a plane from Birmingham airport might be at others too. This advent vega was £200 at the Dixon travel in the departure lounge. You can reserve it over the phone and pay for it when you get there. On the website it says something like you can pay when your at the shop and they will deliver it to your home address, if you don't want to take it with you.

I saw this on the 17th of February when I was leaving Birmingham to Edinburgh. Was tempted to get it but the girlfriend wouldn't allow it lol. Hope it helps.

Aside from the fact you can get flash on this device if you spend the time rooting it I don't see why anyone wouldn't just spend an extra £50 and get an iPad. With the iPad you don't have to break the warranty to install a custom OS, and the iPad actually has apps available for it. When Engadget reviewed the XOOM tablet last week they commented that at the moment theres like 16 apps for Honeycomb at the moment. I think only an Android fanboy would pick that over an iPad. Of course a year from now things will be very different, but at the moment Android tablets just aren't ready for the big leagues.

I've got an ipad and did try one of these in Currys while I was there. It seems to be a good alternative with the additional microSD slot as a major plus.

The screen reaction is close to an ipad, seemed fairly slick, the screen display was OK. Couldn't test the speed of the browser because it didn't have a connection. It does have a camera to the front for internet video calls and video recording (could imagine thats quite awkward).

I'd say for browsing and films it looks a good choice.

It doesn't ship with it because Advent didn't develop it. Presumably the stock rom has few features because it helped to keep the cost down.

The modaco rom has come from a community forum (and a certain Paul in particular). It's free (or for a small donation you can add on a performance pack) and if you're ok with a bit of tweaking it transforms a cheap basic tablet into an absolute steal for the money. You can argue the iPad is better, but there's no denying that the price difference is massive. Is it worth the extra? I don't think so.

Belovedmonster - flashing the vega doesn't affect the warranty. In fact it's even been encouraged by Advent who then point out how easy it is to return it to it's factory state.

It may not have many native apps but the majority available through the marketplace work fine. And you shouldn't underestimate the value of SD card support, HDMI and USB

Just case you think I'm a fanboy, this post sent from my iPhone

If you care about the viewing angle I would not recommend the Vega. I had one but returned it and got an ipad. If you lay the device almost flat or at a angle it becomes almost unwatchable. They have got the price due to the poor display. The flash support is great and modding works. Just consider the display first.

Can you make calls from this using a Vodafone sim?

i predict price drop in the tablet market soon.

to much competition (BB play book, ipad2, moto zoom, htc, samsung)

there gonna get cheaper

iPad has IPS screen which is best for viewing angle thats why.

Still can't decide between iPad and begs! Doh! Just want it for browsing internet while watching tv!

So if I lay the Vega flat I can't see the screen very well..... why the hell would I want to lay the thing flat if I'm using it? When using anything, a piece of paper, a cooker, a steering wheel, a door... I usually find that it is so much easier to use when it's in front of me! We could go on forever discussing how and why a Vega/iPad is so much better/worse than the other. If you 'look' for faults they're there on everything we buy/rent/hire, cars, appliances, houses, local facilities, etc etc.

That should b Vega not begs lol

Not wanting to perpetuate the viewing angle debate but for those that are interested here's a video of portrait viewing angle: youtube.com/wat…m4M

If you look at the reviews mate, the Vega comes out very well against the iPad for internet.... page loading times, flash support etc. Here's a video of Web browsing: youtube.com/wat…ted

No, it doesn't take any SIM, you can't use it as a phone. Although you can skype from it with WiFi.

I had one for Xmas but sold it due to under-use. They buyer seems very happy. It is a fantastic bit of kit, especially with the latest Modaco rom, but it's true the viewing angles are poor. You need to be watching it straight on, no-one even at your shoulder will see anything. And it has a proprietary charger which is a bit of a bummer - wish they'd used micro or mini USB.

Deffo a contender to the iPad. Not for build quality or slickness of interface, but because it is so much cheaper it offers a really good proposition for a lot less money.

What did you reckon to the quality of the screen? Wanted it as a graphic novel reader so the screens pretty important. ALso, if you mind my asking, how much did you flog it for 2nd hand?

I had one of them but returned it. The screen really let it down. Pay the extra and get a gen 1 iPad for your needs.

I would think it's the price point that the other manufacturers will struggle to match. This device also has an up and running support network of users over on Modaco. Having said all that, if the rumours are right then this should be an interesting year for Tablet Devices.
