seen this in pcworld, it truly looks awful next to the ipad/ipad2

Don't forget it is nearly half the price!

Apple products are for non technical people who like to be controlled by Apple!

or the MacBorg for short.....

I've got one of these and also an ipad.
Plus points:
Low price
Reasonably well constructed
Flash Player
Andriod apps are easy to install, even without mods.
Battery life is really excellent
Negative points
Screen is the worst I have ever seen, even compared to say 6 years ago. Quality, viewing angle, everything really.
Capacitive response is very poor. Often I have to touch 4 or 5 times to get a letter to enter.
Very basic software "out of the box".

Overall: OK ish, apparently Hoeycomb will be possible.

have you installed the Modaco ROM? its apparently very poor without it and much better afterwards.............

This thing is crap, sis in law got one a few months back it freezes all the time and the touch screen stops working if you try and use it to fast, or do to much, the built in web browser is really fiddley to use to as it seems to have been made for mobile devices, when you click on anything you really have to zoom right in or it gets confused.

..the Modaco ROM, not yet, but will do. This gives you full access to the "Andriod Market" - to be quite honest it's really easy to add apps without the mod.
It's the screen that puts me off.
I sort of like it, and then don't............a bit like my wife if you understand.

(joke ! in case shes reads this - or one of my son's tells her)

Totally different after a few modifications so don't put people off when it sounds like you've had a 5 minute play.
As for the web browsing, after getting the marketplace through the modaco upgrade, the dolphin browser is superb-the gestures are better than any gimmick from the apple orchard of late.

Thanks joetipper - the dolphin browser sounds like a good upgrade.

If you have not installed R8 then you are only using this device to half its potential, possibly even less .

Have a look of one with R8, launcher pro , smart keyboard and dolphin browser hd installed , might change your opinion

I don't understand the complaints, especially about the screen. I have one of these and it is fine, viewing angle and touch. I expect the ones you pay twice as much for are better, but they cost twice as much and I don't see how they can be twice as good. I would advise those complaining about the touch aspect to run the screen calibration app. If you don't have it, install the MoDoCo ROM (I don't remember if it was there before I put the MoDoCo ROM on or not). You ought to do that anyway.

Over on Modaco people seem to rate Corvus 0.5 as being better than r8 and I certainly do.

out the box the thing is pretty useless and I had one and returned it when it was first released. To get the most out of this you have to flash it with a mod ROM like Corvus. Also why are people comparing this to an iPad that is twice the price.

I don't see a problem with having to carry out some mods; Apple cater to people who can't/don't want to carry out any mods (in fact I believe its very hard to modify an ipad at all...) so horses for courses but the Vega is great value....

With custom rom these are really good for the money. It also has hdmi, proper media compatability expandable memory, flash support which the iPad does not.

It also half the price of an iPad one. I have both this and an iPad 1 it a decent little device and well worth the money.

I was put off Corvus by the forum posts from the Corvus developers. Illiterate script-kiddy style, almost unintelligible. Maybe English is not their first language, but anyway, I went with MoDoCo.

Ive got the corvus rom running on mine, awsome tablet and its running at 1600 mhz, so its quick.so much different from out the box! The HD out is great too

The Corvus Rom is great and so is the Vega once it's been Modaco'd but I returned mine as it can't play MKV's even thought the Tegra chip could do it easily.
Only when Tegra/Advent make full use of it's potential, I'll give it another chance.

Sorry to keep asking the same question. I am really waiting for a cheap honeycomb product but really tempted by the price of this. Does anyone know if Honeycomb is likely to be running on this soon on any custom ROM? I cant find any concrete answer to any of the modaco forum!

If there is any chance for Honeycomb to run on this, this is clearly the best tablet to have after customisation. Plus points:
Flash
10.1" screen
USB host/slave ( can use keyboard etc if needed)
customisable home app, browser, keyboard etc.

I have one of these and have to agree about the tweaking and modding that is required. Really good value for the price.

Oh you can use your usb dongle in this! Perfect for the giff gaff sim deal

Save your money. Seriously.

I suggest if you want an Android tablet at a reasonable price go for the ASUS Transformer.

Cheapest one of these I can find is £350 and that is on flea bay or £380 at comet so £155 to £185 dearer than this not quite the same sort of price.

i got one of these a few days ago.

put the r8 rom on immediately without even looking at the stock stuff.

ran the screen calibration app.

installed swiftkey keyboard (which i had already purchased when i had an android phone) as well as dolphin browser (which takes a little bit of getting used to but is very good), a decent rss reader, a news app or two and a nice animated wallpaper (gravitron) and it really is a nice little machine. screen isn't up to an ipad, but then again, it isn't £200 worse if you know what i mean. still perfectly viewable and doable. i was sat up in bed last night watching cool movie trailers on youtube and it was really excellent.

some people have complained about the position of the back button on the top right edge of the screen, well it suits me just fine and is second nature after using the tablet for a couple of hours.

battery life seems excellent.

accessories are a bit limited but hopefully that will improve. i may end up buying the dock from pc world/currys.

main thing for me is that it is a totally different experience from using a laptop, or even using a smartphone. the first few times i used it i was thinking "i don't like tablets", purely because you have to hold/use them in a different way, but once you are past that and don't treat them as a keyboardless laptop or an oversized smartphone, but rather treat them as another versatile means to consume content/media etc, then the tablet comes into it's own.

i happen to like the android ethos of customisation. i abhor apple and it's limited scope, albeit the products are stunning and seem to be of very nice quality. i have used itunes before and it was a royal pain in the butt, whereas android, to me at least, is very easy to grasp.

this, on the other hand, is inferior hardware wise but is so customisable. i will give the r8 rom a run for a couple of weeks and then, if i want to, sling the corvus rom on and overclock it - easy peasy - that's it's charm.

The only thing concrete is that the Advent is certainly capable of running Honeycomb. Apart from that it's unknown if it will every be done officially. I suspect it won't given the lack of official updates from Advent so if it is done it will be community driven would be my guess.

Anyone who compares and out of the box vega to an out of the box ipad is a complete muppet in my opinion. The tablet completely transforms when you stick modaco rom on it and is exceptional value for money. The one bad thing is the viewing angle, but for the price, who cares.

If you need an alternate browser then I would also recommend Dolphin, I found Dolphin HD a bit fiddly so switched to Dolphin mini and love it.

Corvus and this or 3g 16gb ipad 1 for 300? Erhard a better choice?

Ipad will have better build quality and probably better integration and compatibility of software but will lose on customization and versatility to an Android device.

Basically make a list of what you want and see which does it. I'm currently looking for an android tablet not because I dislike apple but just that I prefer being able to drag avi's onto an SD card and watching them without fuss.

well being an apple fan at least you realise whatever you buy today will be outdated in 12mth by an 's' or 'white edition' lol.
vega + custom rom for £195 or ipad2 and zero personalisation for £429.
im waiting for the asus slider personally but my mates have these modded vegas and love them.

I've not just had a five min play had an extended play with one over a weekend, and it wasent modded. I doubt the mod fixes the fact that you can't rest this on your lap or lay on the sofa comfortably and view the screen.

Cant jailbroken ipod play mkv or avis without conversion?
