could you send me the link and a time machine, thanks

You're really so rude. You asked for an explanation, then gave a snarky sarcastic response. Honestly why bother, this is like the "NO U" of HUKD.

If a car was £5000 two weeks ago, and was now £6000, people would be justified in saying it's not a good deal just because it's the cheapest at the moment.

The chip was £90 at the beginning of April hotukdeals.com/dea…166 and yes that's the 1st of April, but the price stuck for a couple of weeks between this and other retailers.

The time lapse between it being £90 and now £100 is not long enough to consider this the new norm. That's why it's cold.

Don't know how many times this has to be said, best price at time of writing is not the same as a great deal.

Hope that helps explain it, I'll be disabling replies though, so I really don't care.

This is a great chip but AFAICT this is the worst price it's been listed on HUKD by a good £10. The 2600 has been as low as £105 recently and it's still the better CPU if prices are close enough.

If you can wait, this will likely be back in the £80-£90 bracket pretty soon or the 2600 will be within a few quid again.

Why so special?

It's basically a Ryzen 5 2600 part, but labelled a 1600. The original 1600 was an 'AE' SKU, but these are AF SKU's, as AMD are making them out of the same wafers used for the 2600, so you are getting Zen+ Architecture, so basically the chip does more work in any given clock cycle. Mhz are not really directly comparable, as newer chips do more work per Mhz. The complaining here is that they are a £88 part normally so £100 isn't the deal of the century. They do make for a great gaming CPU to be fair, but a little over-priced and the 3600 is available from Amazon today for £157, which probably represents better value, as it is a Zen 2 part, although the cooler on the 1600AF is a better cooler. Lot of CPU for your money, but again, there are New AMD CPUs coming on 21st May, if you can hang out, you'll get even more bang for your buck for the £100 price-point.
Topcashback is 1.6% for CCL too.

The 1600AF/2600 vs 3100 is going to be a really interesting match up because you're looking at 6 core/12 thread Zen+ vs 4 core/8 thread Zen 2.

Just an uneducated guess, but i reckon the Zen+ will still be better in productivity and many games that utilize >4 cores. Zen 2 is good but it's not 50% better than Zen+ to make up the shortfall in cores.
its getting silly yes technically its a deal but tomorrow if it goes up £10 is it still a deal if its still the cheapest?

I'm not sure I'm ready for the big philosophical questions as it's before wine time, all I know it's the cheapest at the moment :/

Couldn't agree more. This whole 'let me get my time-machine' response on HUKD is practically a meme now.

Not games I know, but something,[Video]

Unfortunately, it's irrelevant, all those tests were done on the same CPU (3600x). The new Ryzen 3 3100 will be Zen 2 architecture while the 1600AF/2600 are the older Zen+ architecture. There are major differences between the two generations and Zen 2 is a sizeable amount faster per core.

The intriguing question is will 4 of the faster Zen 2 cores outperform the 6 slower Zen+ cores in games and/or productivity?
Does anyone know a good gpu for 4k movies, streaming and some virtual machine work. No gaming. Would be paired with this cpu

Pretty much anything. A GT 1030 would serve you just fine for those tasks.

how many VMs are you thinking of running at once? if it's only one you may get away with an APU?
