Superb photo editing app

Great thanks

Anybody have any opinion on how this compares to Pixelmator?

fantastic....been holding out for a sale on this...top find op...heat added

Apologies for the basic question....

But what would this do over and above the standard editing options on the iPad Pro?

I tend to use my MacBook for editing as it has the retouching tools and more advance colour options, but having that facility on the iPad would be amazing.

Oh, also, i'm guessing this would be Apple Pencil compatible for more accurate editing than my fat thumbs?

I can't speak for this particular app, but I use Pixelmator with an apple pencil and for basic editing it can easily replace a laptop - great for touching up pics on the go.

The higher end apps can also handle RAW format which is obviously important if you're shooting with a DSLR.

It genuinely wipes the floor with Pixelmator for true photo editing - this is much more powerful. Having said that, I prefer the repair tool in Pixelmator as it works faster and for me gives better results but the similar Inpainting tool in Affinity Photo is still very good.

Thanks mate - enough confidence for me to trial this for a month.

EDIT: It's comfortable with RAW though yes? Some apps are iffy...

Yes, I'm part of the beta program for Affinity Photo on the iPad and initially it had issues with RAW support but it has been cleared up and now offers full iOS RAW support. If you are serious about editing on the iPad, honest the original £19.99 price was a steal so this half price sale is a no brainer.

Cheers, i've bitten. Looking forward to giving it a go.

You'll like it I'm sure. There is a learning curve as there is a lot to it but the support forums are good and they have loads of video tutorials on their site.

Anyone with an iPad Pro, pencil and an interest in photography would be missing out if they didn't snap this deal up. Affinity Photo for iPad is a brilliant bit of software. I have the desktop version as well but I prefer to use this iPad version on my 12.9 Pro.
Its quite complicated to get used to at first but there are loads of demos and tutorials on youtube.
I paid £19.99 and its a steal at that price so £9.99 - wow

What ipad are you using ?

Just wondering if the repair tool isn't as fast on Affinity if you are using an older ipad/not a iPad Pro.

I know that it works instantly in Pixelmator on the 2017 iPad Pro.

For shooting RAW? I don't use any camera apps on the iPhone/iPad as I prefer to shoot with Nikon dSLR and Sony mirrorless. For editing RAW, look at Affinity Photo and RAW Power.

I've got both 10.5 and 12.9 2017 Pros. Like for like, Pixelmator repair tool works faster and to my eyes generally gives better results on a single pass. In some scenes, Affinity Photo does a better job and with either app, a couple of passes are normally enough to get the desired result. Affinity Photo may actually be more accurate as it is processing more hence the longer time to process Inpainting but the output doesn't always look how I would like at the first attempt.

Slightly off topic but has anyone tried the video editing app LumaFusion ? If so is it any good ?

I have heard it is as good as you can get for the ipad

Yup, using that too and the latest beta 1.5 which will hopefully be released before the end of the year has brought chroma key, video cropping and multi-track audio support. There is nothing to compare on iOS for video editing and iMovie only has a fraction of the features.

Easily. Very capable software and actually quite easy to use once you get used to the different parts of the UI. Lots of help in their forum at forums.luma-touch.com/ which I frequent as well and the software is relatively new so only going to get better very quickly.

That's great.

Do you know if LumaFusion comes with royalty free music ? As i always end up just using the very limited selection of tunes on iMovie

Yes it does. I haven't used their music myself so will need to check out what is available but you can access it from within in the app.

That's the same way I do it with the SD card of my canon,it's a REALLY quick way of doing it.

Apples accessories are well over priced but the card reader is worth it just for the speed.

Do you guys ever have the issue of them appearing as blank white tiles on the import screen for AGES? Too many images on the card is my issue I suspect? 12.9 IPP If that effects it.

Yes, I get that from time to time, especially if I have imported some previously as it has got to work out what has been imported and what is new. You can still start the import though before the thumbnails are generated.

I can't say I ever personally have that issue, but that could be for the fact I only use a 16GB SD card in my canon and don't normally transfer more than 200 or so photos at a tim and they are not in RAW

Only RAW for me and the card needs backing up! Explains it I think.

Thank you

Bought the app on the strength of recommendations and reviews and quite disappointed.
i have just been messing around with filters so far, and after half an hour the app has crashed 4 times.
Maybe I should have read more App Store reviews as this seems fairly common.

I’ve seen a lot of reports of crashes but in fairness it has never crashed for me. It is worth posting the crashes in their forums as they are working to improve the app. You also have the option of a refund if it isn’t working for you but I would recommend persisting as it is a very complex piece of software and fairly new so they are still working to resolve bugs and crashes.
