Shame its for Mac only !! The software looks like it could give Adobe Photoshop CS and Elements a run for the money.

Absolutly ! A windows version seems to be under development. It may come to you soon.

Looks good. Would probably take a punt if I didn't already legitimately own Photoshop. Haven't even bothered with the likes of Lightroom as a result

Lightroom is good in terms of the workflow element, and it was never really meant to be an image editor as such.

People may also want to consider the cross-platform GIMP which is free.

It's great that Adobe have some competition with their ever increasing prices, and subscription model. A shame this is Mac only.

Thanks for sharing this. I was skeptical when I saw 'Serif', thought it was going to be budget software aimed at the budget sector and of course nothing wrong with that. At the moment I am using Gimp, here, on the computers, if only because it's free, meets our needs and available on Linux/Mac/Windows. Despite its known frustrations, I find it comparatively stable under Linux but not so much on Mac, so I am going to give the beta of Affinity Photo a try. Considering the reviews, the price seems very reasonable. I wonder how long it will take go up in price from £29/£39. I hope the £29 holds for a while, while I try out the beta. Based on the reviews and not being able to find it cheaper anywhere, have some heat.

Had nothing but issues with Photoshop CC lately. Since the last patch the programs actually become unstable. It would be good for there to be more good alternatives.

Luckily I get Adobe CC for free through a workplace agreement but if I didn't I would be even more annoyed at it.

I tried gimp not my cuppa I have been using photoshop for years . I have a set workflow plenty of actions and a few plugins like perfectly clear and silver effects pro nik pack and alien skin blow up what can I say will take some beating . Gonna have a look

I am a Photoshop user but also have a Serif programme called Craft Artist Professional 2 which is marketed for e.g. scrapbooking, but actually isn't bad in terms of features and functionality for the price (which is often £4.99 - keep an eye out for it on the Daisytrail website or watch the Serif Software facebook page for offers). I find it isn't as resource efficient as Photoshop but is really pretty good for the money. My guess would be that Affinity Photo builds on some of this earlier product?

It says it's reduced until July 23rd... oh and I think the Beta finished when it launched today, could be wrong.

I read it was written fresh from the ground up, by cats or something?!

I'm trying out the beta at the moment, from macupade, but I use Little Snitch to block all apps except for browser from communicating, so possibly it would have told me it has expired. It is very polished but very different from Gimp, unsurprisingly, would take some getting used to. Thanks for the heads up on the July 23rd cut off, I am definitely considering it.
