A fantastic game which I enjoyed for many hours as a kid. A bargain at this price.

I paid full price for it when it was released, and it was really buggy and just badly done.

For the scenarios the save games don't save where you are or what you've done, they save at a check point.

the trigger points were badly placed and often the game refused to continue because it didn't recognise I had moved the correct unit to the correct location.

to continue conversations between two characters you have to repeated click on each character.

the so called new units are awful.

There are far better scenarios on the workshop.

Got a horde of angry Huns camped on your doorstep?

Staff trouble at the lumber mill?

Aztecs trying to destroy your Noresmen's wonder?

BETTER CALL SAUL!

Just played my first online matches this afternoon (first played this game offline aged 12...), have some heat!

this was part of a humble bundle recently wasn't it ???

One of my favorite PC games back when you really had to bring your PC to your mates for a lan party to play... bought and added heat

Can't see any on there for £2.50. Has the seller got more or was it a one off private sale?

Hot from me

I remember buying Age of Empire 3 Gold from Microsoft Games for Windows. Is it still possible to download it from Microsoft?

Ah the memories of playing Age of Empires! First game I bought when I got my own PC. Remember playing online against friends and spending countless hours on it. Pretty sure I still have the original discs somewhere.

What is it with people wanting to come and gloat about how they got 'X' item cheaper, it's like they delight in cheesing off potential buyers!?

If the deal is still available, then that's fair enough - in fact I see it as a neighbourly service. However, 9 times out of 10, this isn't the case...

Shame it's Steam

It's all a matter of opinion since it's a bonus in my eyes. If I add the key Steam on my desktop pc and can choose to download it straightaway without any messing around for looking for the correct installation files and patches. Also the next time I start up steam on my laptop it's on my game list should I want to download it there instead (or aswell).

Many MANY years ago I had my doubts about Steam but it certainly beats searching old HD's for installation backups for games that you then have to spend ages finding the correct patch for (if you can even them anywhere). Perhaps to then find the game doesn't even work on current OS, with Steam it takes no effort and you know whether it'll work beforehand. I still have my old AoE II CD but have toyed with the idea of buying this HD version a number of times, still not going to bite though mainly for the reason I have already have a ton of Steam, PS3, Xbox and PS+ games I have yet to play.

I only play one or two games (mainly League of legends and Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic) and I resent having that thing running in the background all the time. When I buy Age of Wonders 3 it will be through gog, so that I can continue to avoid Steam altogether. Even the boxed retail versions are going to need Steam, apparently :'(

I wholeheartedly agree that boxed retail games should not require Steam, Origin, UPlay or whatever else to play. It always feels like they're hitting the paying customers, sometimes it makes me want to download a cracked copy just avoid the needless protection imposed on me for buying a genuine copy. To think I had always found it annoying when you had to put the cd/dvd in the drive everytime you started up a game. One advantage Steam does have over the other two I mentioned is that at least there's the option to switch to offline mode so you can play while disconnected from the internet or just the Steam servers, yes the client still needs to running but that's better than not being able to play at all.

Probably the main reason I came to like Steam is that I travel a lot with work so often stay in hotels, far too often the internet access is slow and/or expensive or not even available in rooms so my Steam library came as a nice alternative to watching movies.

Asura

the forgotten expansion is rubbish.

I personally think the Forgotten is fantastic for multiplayer and random map. New civs, graphics, maps and the AI is incredibly strong now. I haven't tried the new campaigns though.
