Good price, Is this my biting point? Is it actually HD? I read mixed reviews on this.

Heat added thanks tiger man.

I'd also like to know how good this is in comparison to the original.. Some say it sucks ass.. Hope not as it was a true classic

Eeesh, 68 Metacritic score. Wonder why, the original was regarded as a classic.

other than the resolution they haven't changed much, although, you could set it at 1080 anyway.

Really, it just depends if you want the game on Steam.

Is Conqueres Addon included?

age of empires 2 hd includes the conquerors as standard

The game is absolutely horrendous. You can never manage to play a full online game. Check the steam support forums for the plethora of issues.

heres a pic

its mainly the terrain and recources that has changed. the hud has been smartened up a bit to but the units pretty much look the same, albeit maybe sharper looking

It's a bit sharper but not that great - I bought last time there was similar steam sale and it's ok but not great.

It's definitely not my biting point.

Have this game its just not HD amazing game a true strategy game imo !

I loved the original game

It's not HD as in a HD remake where all the graphics have been remade in HD. It's HD as in it supports HD resolutions which, to be fair, the original version can do with a simple patch/tweak.

Here's a comparison image I made myself when I posted a deal the last time it was this cheap -

Basically you're paying for someone to apply a (freely available, user made) patch to the game for you, plus Steam support. At normal price that seems a bit of a rip off but at £3,what have you got to lose? I'm concerned about all the online issues but things can only improve, surely?

I love this game, have many hours logged on it! I have the original as well and to be honest I don't see too much difference except the resolution. Oh and it's a lot easier to click play than have to dig out the CD and load it up ;P

The game is exactly the same but I don't think it is worth the full price. But for those who doesn't want to deal with the hassle of installing mods and stuff (like me), this is a good price.

Forgotten empires is 45mb and has a 1-click installer! It also enables you to play at res' greater than 1280x1024

And the xOmicron patch (for the original version of the game with The Conquerors installer, available at http://userpatch.aiscripters.net/) is only 1.72mb with a 1-click install (and a bunch of options you can choose from, but it defaults to the most useful ones) and enables HD resolutions. That's a user made patch but I believe the HD Edition and Forgotten Empires actually used it in their development. I originally discovered it because I was trying to play the original game without the CD, and although there has always been a no-CD crack available for it, I realised that there was no music unless you kept the CD in the drive, because the disc had actual CD audio tracks on it and there was no way of installing the music to hard drive. The mod enables custom soundtracks, playing MP3s from a playlist, so you can rip the CD/download the soundtrack and get music that way.

Again, I couldn't justify full price just to essentially have someone else do that for me, but £3.74? For lifetime ownership of a digital copy? Why not?

Nice to see the game getting this much interest from brits, it's pretty much just me and a handful other people playing at a competitive level last I checked. The game is always growing in playerbase although slowly and should be an everlasting game, so money well spent if you are into the multiplayer scene.

I am buying this just because of the low price (Have the disks but having it digital would be handy for the future)
