The need for a dashcam is due to our car insurance mechanics. Basically it rewards dishonesty by denying ownership of the accident cause. There's less chance of a driver admitting liability if it results in a financial penalty. Therefore this insurance mechanism will encourage dishonesty. Best invest in a dash cam to prevent this. Here is a video of driver clearly at fault doing everything they can to blame others. I soon purchased a dash cam after reviewing this video.

Funnily enough, that’s exactly the same video that prompted me to buy a dashcam as well. The peace of mind that you gain knowing you have more than your word against theirs, is worth the small investment IMHO.

I have a very similar mode in both of my cars and apart from cable replacement they have been great for the last 6 years.

It just offers peace of mind as twice I have been hit by drivers who then claim that I have hit them.

be very careful who you hand footage over to. It can all be used against you, even though you might not think you have broken any Law........

Don't ever tell the other driver at the roadside you have footage. Or the police/insurance. Review it before you tell anyone.

Also quite good to watch the other part lie through their back teeth to the police (if involved) and insurance company... Once they get a marker for lying on the insurance databases, good luck getting any sort of insurance in the future got a reasonable price

I saw a review that claimed this only records in 60 second loop files and doesn't have any kind of on board battery meaning you have to reset time and date every time you power it on? Can anyone confirm please?

The date problem exists on most dash cams and action-cameras. You might as well turn the time stamp off as it's useless.

You have to but the gps module and connect it to the dashcam, I'm not sure where to buy it though!

Would this be useful in the rear view window?. I got bashed up the rear by some guy who drove off without even leaving his contact details!. If I would have had footage of this it would have been useful!.

It works both ways as from what I see the vast majority drive at a speed that suits them very few drive to the speed limits, Those that do 40 mpg everywhere thinking they are super safe drivers might not want to have a camera.
We all follow one every day unless you are that driver then I imagine you have a convoy behind you.

I recommend having at least something like this in the car, not just for yourself but others. I managed to catch a woman driving into the back of a stationary car, she was drunk with a child in the back. But still stood and argued it was the other drivers fault. My footage was clear and put an end to her lies

Bought thanks. Had someone reverse into the side of my car and drive off last month. Cost me £400 to fix.. might have been avoided if I had one of these. What sold me on it is extreme weather protection as most of them overheat from the weather and breakdown

How does this work if your 12v socket turns off when the car isn’t on?

You wire it into your fuse box. So it actives if your car is hit. If you do it incorrectly you can flatten your battery.

Complete noob here - both to driving and this tech. If I get two, will it act as a rear parking camera? My car is really old and doesn't have a camera when I reverse, if I set this up right - will it help with reversing into spots for example?

Ordered - couldn't get any codes to work but after something after just having had my 3rd crash in 10 years when I'm having to claim from the other driver and been told to get one... Picked up 64Gb Samsung plus micro SD for £8 at the same time. Should be enough to speed up the insurance next time.
