About £0.75 cashback to be had from quidco too :-)

Unless you've got climate control most cars air con systems don't operate below 8-10°C and so won't work in the winter.
Good price for a re-gas though, have some heat.

Good deal... I got a re-fil this summer. The aircon on my BMW hadn't worked since the day I bought it, not even a hint of cool air. 3 years later i was desperate enough to give a recharge a go (wasn't hopeful). Worked a treat, blows freezing cold and still doing so several months on. Felt like a right burk not doing it sooner.
Just thought I'd share in case anyone else is experiencing the same.

am not sure if my car has a leak but if it does will ats know this..? also will i be charged £29.99 still ? i only want to go for this if it works

Mine does in my Corsa 08 reg I don't use it that often in winter, but it's recommended to every now and again just to keep the pipes lubricated, most people don't know it delivers warm air as well as cold.

Are you sure about this? Strikes me that they still dehumidify the air which is why the condensation clears so quickly, even at below zero.

Car Air Conditioning Anti-Bacterial Clean for £19.99. If you read this option by them seems to do it all of what you get at £29.99?

£19.99 simply cleans and freshens your system..

It says:

If your system needs recharging, we can carry out the work while you wait.

But that's not included in the clean.

The Recharge is £29.99 as per the OP.

Or they have a special offer on of a clean and a recharge for the bargain price of £55 .... Go figure!
(I guess its an old offer that was around before the recharge was reduced to just £29.99)

why on earth would anyone want aircon coming up to winter? how cold do you want it to be?

If your air-con needs topping up, it's got a leak.

The refridgerant must have gone somewhere.

*facepalm

1) Have you read the OP?
2) Air Con also produces warm air
3) The price is much lower now than it will be in the summer

Love the idea of

drawing the humility out of the air

Does such a product really exist, and can it be expected to work? I'd be interested if so - I recharged my car a year ago (using a similar deal to this) but I'm guessing the coolant must have leaked out after a month or so since the air con soon became as ineffective as it was before...

You should post that as a deal of your own.

Don't forget:
a) to specify it is local only to the Witney Skoda dealer
b) to include the price of the service.

My car has climate control and doesn't allow the compressor to switch on below 5 degrees. The user manual talks about protecting it from damage at low temperatures.

Check around as some garages do offer free air con check.
If you turn on your air con fully, then set blower switch to the 'recycled' air position don,t use other option which draws in fresh air through vents.
Turn car air con temperature knob to its coolest setting. Now does air blow really cold through your vehicles vent or not? If not cold then you may have a small leak in system.
Any garage that provides air con service simply attaches a machine to you car air con pipes under bonnet. They will add a special dye which mechanic will then see by using special glasses enabling to pinpoint any leak. obviously if there is a leak then you will need to get air con repaired at your expense. Could be a small hole caused by stone or debri from roads getting thrown up in your vehicle.
hope this help you

That's a thought, but it's a local thing and with the grief people get with the local Tesco deals, probably not worth it! Cheers

Whilst it's true that most garages have an automatic machine they use to recharge the system (but not all), the machine does not add dye.

It evacuates the system and pulls a vaccuum. It then checks to maintain a vacuum is maintained by the system before refilling. If it cannot hold a vacuum, you have a leak, and the machine will not even attempt to re-fill.

At that point a garage may offer to try to locate the leak with the help of a UV dye if they offer a repair facility. I don't know if ATS will carry out any repairs to the system. Automotive AC is aquite specialiesd, and most garages who will offer to recharge the system using their fully automated machine have no interest in repairing the system if a fault is found.

A 'free' air-con check usually is just a marketing gimmick to pull you into the garage to get you a recharge ... which can typically cost up to about £79.99 elsewhere.

thanks for reply
ATS will usually not offer to repair system. Any offer of work may invalidate the customers current car warranty. Bit of a grey area.

Any suitable garage can repair a car and it shouldn't affect the warranty ... providing the work is carried out to the manufactures instructions and uses genuine manufacturers parts (but most garages will use genuine parts for the AC system as no one else usually makes them, except for specialist custom automotive AC installers, and they are getting as rare as hens teeth nowadays as there is hardly any market for custom automotive AC systems when probably all manufacturers offer it as a factory fit nowadays)

£250 for a new AC system ... you should have bit their hand off!

Expect to pay at least 5-6 times that amount for a new AC system to be fitted

So your £29.99 actually turned into FREE if you didn't have the work carried out.

... and cootcee64 said ATS don't repair AC systems ... so who's telling the truth here???

No, not really as it uses a DIY can to top-up ...and don't forget the additional charge they will apply for the measure & charge can.

Can costs £34.99 (Plus £10 returnable deposit if you do it yourself)

Not sure. Voucher cannot be used for online purchases (so definitely no cashback, even if it is only about 75p)
Not sure what price ATS will quote if you just ask in their garage.
If it's the same £29.99 they quote, then yes I can't see why you cannot also use the voucher.

I have a seat altea and a pressure switch failed and let all the refrigerant out - and there was aircon oil all over the switch . Changed the switch myself cost £50 and went to ats , he said if there is a leak their equipment tells them before refrigerant goes in as it would be illegal for them to put refrigerant in knowing that a leak may be present and will let it escape . Like people have said if you have no aircon good chance you have a leak either a pipe or a component

I went to ATS for this and they told me there was a leak- fair enough. But they also told me that I had 80% wear on the front brakes which is amazing as they had only been fitted a week before! It is a cheap price so that they can get you through the door and rip you off for other 'urgent' work.
