Interested to know what major international carriers are a lot worse

Reservation now includes 2 checked in bags per person. When I booked last year it was only 1. May email them to clarify.

I do the UK<->NZ trip a couple times a year. Usually choose Singapore, …I do the UK<->NZ trip a couple times a year. Usually choose Singapore, Emirates or Air NZ. I’ve flown Air China and HK Airlines in the past but for such a long journey you are worth paying the extra unless your budget doesn’t allow it. Problems do arise when travelling but being in the hands of an airline that takes care of you when things go wrong is worth any extra cost in my eyes.I had a terrible experience with HK Airlines, worse than Air China. I had a 36hr delay in HK due to the first leg arriving late so their partner airline for the remaining leg (Thai Airlines) refused us onboard despite the gates still being open (my belief is they overbooked the flight). Nevertheless, HK Airlines had terrible communication through the whole ordeal, never experienced anything quite so bad - and as many of you also, I’ve had my fair share of bad experiences with the like of BT and Royal Mail. HK Airlines kept us in the airport for 14hrs continually telling us “a new flight is being arranged we will have you on the way soon, we expect 1hr..” eventually it hit midnight and then they put us up in an airport hotel (at their cost) and told us to be at the checkin desk for 7am for our new flight. Oh.. I missed out that before that they gave us £2 of food vouchers for keeping us waiting (£2 may get you a meal in HK but definitely not inside the Airport where your voucher is only valid).. it only gets you a McDonald’s coffee. Anyhow, 7am at the check in desk, no one knows anything about us and there is no new flight. The previous staff have gone home, forgotten all about us. So it all starts again, the promises of being on our way soon and don’t leave the check in desk area.. this lasted a further 14hrs with another £2 food voucher, oh how generous. In the end they did manage to get us on a new flight but with Emirates instead and oh boy, what a fantastic flight that was.. the crew where amazing, so friendly and helpful, the food was great, the leg room was plentiful and it was at that point I realised how stupid I was trying to save a few hundred pounds by not flying with a good airline.. never going to make that mistake again and haven’t regretted it since.But.. if you are willing to put up with a budget airline like this and have never been to NZ then go for it, it’s a great price... just remember to give yourself a bit of extra time to recover from the flight (the experience not the jet lag!).I should mention (warn), if you are going with China Southern then they were ok however the downside on the trip to/from NZ to UK is they often stop at Guangzhou Airport... whatever you do, do not book a flight that has a transit of more than 2hrs there, it is the worst airport I have ever been to. My other half would testify to this also after coming out the toilets with a horrified expression on her face after find the have squat toilets in an international airport! It is over priced for China and has what feels like 2 shops but repeated 3 times over in a small terminal. Yeh.. just don’t go there.Anyhow..NZ is a wonderful place.. I live in Wellington which unfortunately has the worst weather due to the cook straight bringing with it A LOT of cold wind. That being said however you eventually get used to it but for a holiday you may not want to spend too long there.. see the sights then move further inland to the Wairarapa or if your done exploring the North Island jump on the ferry and head to Picton and start your journey south making sure to stop off in Queenstown for a week of fun.

I flew Air China to NZ once - I think I'll pass on using them again.

I fly to China at least 10 times an year on business and ALWAYS avoid Air China. Most of their crew is rather impolite and indifferent and does not seem to understand what one would need on a long haul flight. And I am talking of Business Class here.

We dare not leave the gate for a wander round the airport because we didn't know when we would board.

Hope you put in compensation claim over 3 hours with EU departure its about £440 for long haul

Just came back from Bangkok last Friday with Air China, absolutely no problems what so ever, plane had much more leg room than both the Virgin and Lufthansa flights I took to the states last year. Food was average and catered to Chinese tastes as were the selection of movies, but that was obviously going to be the case. Paid £350 for my return flight I have no complaints.

Security at PEK were allowing only one power bank and confiscating others - saw piles of perfectly good power banks confiscated. I got my Anker power bank through and they took long time looking at my powered speaker 'brick' but allowed that through in the end.

I've used Air China to Bangkok in the past. Flight London to Beijing is good but the Beijing to Bangkok is pretty small and old aircraft. Food is OK! Would fly with them again. I also stayed 72 hours in Beijing. Paid around 320

Price is nothing special - lots of other options at that sort of price. … Price is nothing special - lots of other options at that sort of price. What are Air China like with changing return date? One assumes the leg room is limited too! Something to be factored in for a 12hr flight!Cheers for the tip on a short stopover in Beijing. A good way to squeeze in another city.

Flew Air China to Manila in March 2016. Leg room was reasonable. There are two options for each meal: Western or Chinese. I went for the Chinese and it was satisfactory. They only do complimentary beer or cheap wine and water isn't handed out in bottles, only small cups. Customer service was ok but nothing special. You get what you pay for.

I'm wondering if Bangkok bombing and China's crash means reduced prices all around. There is always some good that comes from bad (discuss).

Hot, heat added

Air China is the worst of all, from services, food, aircraft .... very small leg room, rude stewardess, horrible food, can not ask for extra juices....AVOID at all costs. No one flies them for the second time, that is why all tickets still there, and reduced significantly!!! You go through hell with Air China!
