The Spitfire kit of the 3 gets a very poor write up. Shane, that's the one I would have chosen.

I fear Airfix suffers from a bit of a reputation among "serious" model builders, certainly when I used to build them as a kid, they always looked like they'd crashed several times before reassembly,

One of my mates who has a garage full of models tends to look down his nose at them, but I'm certain any suitably inclined ten year old would be absolutely delighted (not that I'm convinced encouraging kids to play with model killing machines is all that healthy, but kids will be kids!)

They have seriously upped their game in recent years. The last few Airfix kits I purchased were all to an impressively high quality, more like Tamiya than Revell now, just with the price of Revell still. Win win...

That said, I don't own this kit so can't really speak of it, I will be getting one for this price. But if you do want a nice Airfix spitfire, you could drop down a couple of scales and go for one of their new tool 1/48 versions. I have the PR.XIX to build next, the MK.1 is on pre order... And thanks op, I almost bought this from Amazon, only a few pounds difference but every little helps.
Whats the BF109 gift set? cant find it!
Bought this for the same price from Debbies in Jan 2015. It's a big kit. Still not made it yet!!! Great value.

in addition to the above, these kits are all from 1970s molds. That said, they all make decent models. Airfix has, over the last 6 years or so, been investing in new molds and are updating their models. Models designed recently are generally considered to be very high quality and among the best and, having made a few now, I can attest that there is a significant improvement in both detailing and fit. Well worth buying now!

Yep, definitely. I did a bit of reading up on this kit, it's definitely more in the bracket of older Airfix kits. So don't hold our promises of excellent quality to this kit. But it is a huge spitfire for a very low price, so if you're willing to fight it a bit, it should look like a Spitfire ultimately. I'll echo my recommendation of the new 1/48 kits however for about the same price, they are really good!
