Oh Akai what have you done Sad how these once great manufacturers devalue their brand reputation by licensing or selling their name to be used or any crappy Chinese tat.

Heat added for the price. Got to wonder what kind of "parties" Robert Dyas thinks this is "ideal" for!

The Chinese are much better and cheaper in manufacturing. I remember when Google bought Motorola and Microsoft bought Nokia and ruined them . Only after Chinese bought the brands , they became profitable again. Recently Google bought most of HTC .

When were Akai “once great” , they were always pretty crap as far as I remember back in the 80s/90s
Yep Akai actually went bankrupt in 2004. All the various divisions were sold to any buyers to use the name on whatever products - good or bad - they fancied. So yes a huge loss of the quality and innovation of the original brand in the 60s to 80s.

Best portable cassette player I ever had, it had equalizer, wired remote control & fancy colours.

Lol do you not remember the S series samplers they produced and the MPC range too? The early 90s explosion of dance music, breakbeat hardcore, jungle, trance, name your flavour tbh is in no small part down to these machines.
But hey if these were pretty crap, then what was better at the time?

Well probably Sony, Panasonic, Technics, Pioneer the list goes on I was referring to the brand name in general rather than “samplers” I remember akai as a kind of low quality brand the same as Samsung was believe it or not in the 80s and 90s

For sure they are capable of producing good stuff nowadays but they still mass produce utter tosh too. But my argument is more about the deception of badge engineering. Does this look like an item worthy of the original Akai badge? Cmon now...
Good buy uf you can click and collect. Robert Dias keep closing stores and none of the stores have stock near me. At least their website tells which stores have stock. However plus £3.95 for delivery does not make this radio a bargain.

Also in the 60s and 70s they were a top brand for VTRs and later VCRs
