Despite being portable headphones, the K551s deliver a completely immersive experience.

The distinctive aesthetics of the K551s are stylish and chunky yet deceptively lightweight - comfortable enough for hours of use. The huge 50mm drivers and AKG's Real Image Engineering mean an awesome frequency response, ensuring that these 'phones deliver a precise, spacious sound and a perception of distance and depth that remains faithful to the original recording.

With a stunningly realistic soundstage and very low sound leakage, the K551s from AKG will keep you immersed in your music for hours on end.

The attached headphone cable also incorporates a subtle in-line microphone and remote for Apple iOS devices. - See more at: superfi.co.uk/p-1…spx

They are essentially the same headphones AFAIK, but the K551's are aimed toward being more portable with a shorter cable, mic/volume and a carrying pouch.

HUKD should put a ban on headphone posts, i have enough already dont tempt me further

Agree. I am looking for a deal for extra ears now.

i think i have finally settled on a pair of JVC S680 but there not too portable or at least thats what im trying to convince myself. was looking at the AKG 452 but there is just no bass in them at all so my go down to superfi to try these.

Tries any Grados yet?
Love my SR80's , great phones.

Have a pair of Grado SR60's and these AKG K550's, prefer the Grado's (just more rounded and warm sound) but the K550's do sound better than most other closed back headphones

You modded them yet? head-fi.org/t/5…mod

k550's are the better sounding of the two - they do have slightly different frequency response -

however depends on your requirements as the k550's are for home use - the cable is considerable longer and thicker than on the k551s - can't rem if 2 or 3m long

not a patch on my audio technica's

Excellent price but I already have too many cans. Heat added.

Have both, my audio technica A900s which are the closest match to the K550s being closed cans the differences are staggering in terms of noise isolation in fact its night and day difference the K550s once you get use to the seal and correctly put in on your head you leak very little noise.

A900s, leak noise like nothing in comparison, but the A900s do have a slightly wider soundstage, however the detail in the instruments and overall definition of the sounds the K550 replays them much more accurate.

So both have good and bad points, overall the K550s are used 99% of the time.

For under 99 quid these are super hot got mine for £120 reduced from £150 a year ago, you will notice your current music collection will sound very different compared to your cheapo £10-40 headphones/plugs.... then you will never put your K550s down.

Take a look at Alessandro MS1i as well - they use bits from the Grado parts bin, and tuned more for rock and electric guitar. Downside is you have to wait for them to ship from the U S and A, but with £ strong vs $ they are pretty good value, even with the import duty.

I ordered the 551's as portability is important to me

Thanks for the code OP

Just bought them in white. Seems too good a deal to turn down. Looked at P3s but put off by the fit, also looked at the k451 (I think that's the model) but didn't like the style.

Have a pair of grado in ear but not the best for long term listening.

Just thought I'd add: don't bother getting these if you wear glasses! It opens up the seal and makes them sound very flat...

For a reasonably priced pair of closed back headphones these actually sound very, very good. Be warned though, you'll need quite a large head to get a good seal with these, and without a good seal you'll lose a lot of bass response.

Heres a good review I recommend people watch before purchasing k551

My Sennheiser HD25 II's sound considerably better than these in my opinion, although they don't look as good, aren't fully closed, and are less comfy to wear for long periods. You get a lot with the Sennheisers though, including parts that will always be available, and a quality of manufacturing that has seen them being industry standard for many years.

Hey guys,

Just a quick warning. This headphones are very sensitive to how you position them, changing completely the sound by moving them slightly. I've been warned that, because of this, people with glasses may have problems...

Terrific set of cans for the money.

Without a doubt the best you can get at this price.

They will **** all over Beats by Dre.

Lovely headphones.

I have these headphones, and this is an amazing price for what you get from them!

I gave these headphones a test-drive in Richer Sounds testing room, running off a very expensive amp. Didn't like the sound at all, sounded very dull, no balls at all. Shame really as I really had my heart set on buying these.

My Sens HD215 sound far better in my opinion.

I would recommend to anyone thinking of buying these, that they try them out first. They may not be to everyone's taste.

Slightly off topic but I need info from those who know ("I know nothing but I learn...."). I'm off on holiday with several 10 hour bus drives and want some very comfortable phones for my Nexus 4 (and maybe iPad). Would these do? Also another problem is I wear glasses - can anyone suggest a suitable pair of headphones?

These are great headphones. They were my favs until I recently bought some beats by dre...

DPD are the king of delivery companies. Put the likes of Yogal et al to shame.

On a headphone note I love my cheaper AKGs I got from Superfi. Must keep telling myself I don't need these too...

This. And the GPS website tracking they have on their vans allow you to see exactly where the van is. You can watch it go from delivery to delivery, you can know (within about a 10 minute window) when it will arrive. Why more courier companies don't do this i don't know.
