35 years after Kondansha published the first chapter of Akira in 1982, the Japanese publishers announced at Emerald City Comicon that they are set to re-release Akira in a "35th Anniversary Edition" box set.

The box set will consist of a slip case which will collect all six volumes of the seminal series in large-format hardcovers.
The artwork will be uncut and unaltered, and will be available in English for the first time in its original right-to-left reading format with the original Japanese sound effects with end-note translations.

Included is the "Akira Club" art book, which includes Otomo’s title-page illustrations from the original serialization, preliminary drawings, alternate art, commentary and more.
Also included is an exclusive patch featuring the iconic pill design!
*Box set design not final*

Very good deal! Cheers
I'm voting hot on this because it's a very good deal for what you get - essentially, you're getting a nice big boxset of hardback versions for the cost of the softcovers today.

The Akira Club book is well worth having too (although you can usually pick it up a lot cheaper than those amazon prices suggest).

And this is just the starting price...there is every chance the price will still drop untill the October release date!
A quick eBay search shows only one English version "Akira Club" book for sale at £38 but that still puts the combined total over the deal price and the book is 2nd hand.
Kinda puzzled why this is getting voted down!?
Does anyone know what the dimensions of the hardcovers are? Read these 10+ years ago in the US softcovers so just wondering whether these are bigger
Also price has now dropped to £101.25

As I understand it they will be similar to the US softcovers, but I don't know for sure.

The Akira Club book seems to have jumped in value in recent years - I picked it up a couple of years ago for less than twenty quid.

Either way, this is a really good price.

It has yet to be announced. When Dark Horse lost the publishing rights to Akira and Kondansha re-released it, the volumes were the same size so it wouldn't surprise me if they stay the same again for the new hardcover versions!
Personally i'm hoping for larger books...something like the "Absolute" versions that DC releases would be great!

I got n e-mail from Amazon on the 2nd saying:
"We're still trying to obtain the item(s) which you ordered"

I received a second e-mail a few days back saying:
"Please be advised that we have a revised delivery date for the items you ordered"
"Otomo, Katsuhiro "Akira 35th Anniversary Box Set"
Estimated arrival date: November 11 2017 - November 14 2017"

Will have to wait and see. I'm definitely not cancelling and re-ordering as the price has gone up and I managed to grab this when it was only £90!
