KANEDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Good film, great price although I don't know how well it stands up to modern standards. It's hilarious how most of the Japanese male characters look like 6"5 American Caucasians. Talk about inferiority complex.

Got it a while ago, top anime film this

Some bonus information for you: Akira is set in Neo-Tokyo - wherein a massive nuclear incident has taken place destroying much of the city. In some scenes, posters are seen advertising the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Today, post-Fukushima; Tokyo prepares for the 2020 Olympics... Oooohh. Twiglet Zone.

Feeble

considering the actual events that caused the destruction of Tokyo in the film, and the Tokyo government's response to Fukushima, that's even more spooky than it first seems...

oh yeah, also, this is my favourite Blu-Ray, but it annoys me to watch it. i LOVE the English voice track (the newer version anyway) but i never watch it with the dub any more because the remastered Japanese DTS version sounds mind blowingly good. it's impossible to put across how improved the music is without hearing it. if you've not seen this film for a while, and are looking for a good reason to buy this, that alone is worth ten times the asking price.

Well it was very common in manga and anime for characters to have a westernised look. It was often the "baddies" that would be made to look oriental Asian. Lot's of social, political and commercial reasons for this. Haven't really been keeping up with manga or anime since way back, because it became really crap, so not sure how things are now. But judging by the closest analogue to manga/anime, Japanese videogames, it seems this is still the case. Protagonists will have full Japanese names but do not look remotely Japanese.
This is also why females in manga and anime have the distinctly large round eyes. To make them look more Caucasian which after WW2, was considered to be the height of beauty. Again, lots of social and political reasons for this.
