I looked at this but given no smart functions, 720p and a crappy brand like Alba it needs to be more like £70 to be a deal.

Looks OK to me, 24 inch and Dvd also usb for hard drive, also ALBA are owned by vestel so Brand is irrelevant

Back in the 80s you were rocking it if you had an Alba stereo or portable in your bedroom.
Big upgrade from a fisher price one

True. Ive probably owned one myself and loved it at the time, but that was 30 years ago and i desire better quality now.
I'm sure this would be fine for a kids bedroom. Are they going to notice the budget brand? I doubt it

Alba was rubbish then and no better now. Sure you're not thinking of AKAI?

Nope. Nobody normal could afford Akai.
Having the freedom of music in your bedroom is what mattered

Alba, bush, saisho (Dixon's) matsui (Curry's) all very poor.
Maybe op is looking back with rose tinted specs.
Akai, kenwood, pioneer, awai, Sony off the top of my head were all decent.
I remember getting my first HiFi with a built in CD player in 86, made by philips, replaced with awai separates in 89.
