Funnily enough, they're probably the same TV. Argos use the Hitachi brand/badge on stuff not manufactured by Hitachi.

Sounds like Hitachi and Alba may well be the same unit anyway, so if you prefer Hitachi on the front then its the same price.....

maybe alba rebadge but the stats look a little different faster reponse time etc so would still go with the hitachi

spend about £100 more and get a quality set 42" panasonic at dixons for £512, the alba will be truly awful.

hay doober the 500 panny is plasma not lcd, however if u dont like alba u could get a tosh for about £450 or maybe an lg

sammy PLASMA = £400

OP, as you're looking to buy, I think this would be a better investment for your father.

comet.co.uk/sho…ion

It's £479.99 and 40" as opposed to the 42" Alba, but you can use the discount code REVIEW5 to take the price down to £429.99 and collect in-store if you can. There's also Quidco and TopCashBack available. Best value for money at the moment as it's a large size with Full HD (1080p) capabilities and a great contrast ratio. Recognisable brand too!

Fair enough if thats your opinion. But maybe you should consider qualifying your opinion rather than just trying to be a smart ass?

Got 5 stars from anyone reviewing it on Argos so far (ie, people who have actually BOUGHT one) and heres an online review of it from someone not just trying to be a smart ass...

Thanks for the info, will check it out

By the way, the Alba looks like a good TV. I told my sister about the Hitachi offer - which is probably the same TV (Argos rebadging). Toshiba one looks the best though!

Thats a cracking telly for the price.
I know the Argos one has the right price but the connections etc are poor perhaps if they sold that for £250 then...
At least someone has posted a good answer :whistling::-D

how does this compare in comparison

amazon.co.uk/gp/…294

£20 extra for the 2 extra inch lol

Looks nice. Great price. No Quidco or TopCashBack though, whereas the other has a potential to be lower than £430 and near the Alba TV Suggested due to closer budget. Wonder why Toshiba's are getting cheaper.

but you can get nectar points

Smart tv, my cousin bought it a few days ago. Looks alot better than the picture on the website.

bought this tv just before xmas....and it is well worth buying, looks amazing, picture and sound quality are faultless, would recommend to anyone.

VAT has gone up though so will the Comet price change?
