Alba 7" 8GB Android tablet £49.99 @ Argos

Been at this price a while, an alternative to the similar spec'd Amazon Fire but this has Google Play Store and Android Lollipop. Reviews seem positive and it comes with 2 silicone cases and 2 year guarantee. Bought 2 as Xmas presents and topped it up with a small purchase to get the £10 voucher. You may need to keep checking local stock as it comes and goes daily.

Ooh, hot from me. I need a basic tablet just to keep in the kitchen for recipes and food related/diet stuff. Would this be okay for that?
anyone know if you can move apps from internal to SD card?
my daughter's current tablet has SD card, but doesn't allow the movement of apps.

I imagine this would be more than capable, you can even talk to it if your hands are full!
Not all apps can be moved to the SD card, this will function like any other android tablet when it comes to moving apps to the SD card.
better than bush one they were selling...
I know not all apps can be moved, but on my daughters current tablet, no apps can be moved including those that normally can. It's the way her tablet has been made.
send average in every way imaginable to me, check out Argos, pcworld, tesco outlets and get one of their refurbs with better all round specs with same warranty would be my advice
I remember the old Argos mantra when what sold a bush or alba item...Al-ba-bringing-that-back.
Is this any good for kids?? I need to buy for a 5yr and 8yr old

Hope so I've just bought for my 5 and 7 year olds! There's parental controls on it and different coloured covers.

I don't think their hooves would be detected by the touchscreen. It's designed for humans.

Good Xmas present
1024x600 lol I haven't seen numbers like that since the Xbox 360.

So could the PS2 but it looked terrible.
Cheap Android tablets are no fun. I think a cheap Windows tablet would be a much better choice for most. And don't worry about the apps, because you can't really install any significant number of apps in 8GB anyway.

Halo 3 was at 1152×640, basically every other game was 1280×720. Soooo pretty far away from 1080p. I think the only way you'd get 1080p out of a 360 would be by using a video streaming app like Netflix.

Thanks for that unrelated comment.

It's not unrelated. you're banging on about how the xbox 360 can display a 1080 signal, and yet the majority of it's content isn't running at 1080. I pointed out that the same goes for the PS2 that can also display 1080, but the majority of it's games certainly weren't, thus looked terrible. Don't even go there with the PS2 being unrelated to the XBOX 360, you're here arguing the toss about a console in a deal thread about an android based tablet.

If you can't follow along in a conversation, don't bother posting.

Eh? You make no sense. I said that I hadn't seen that kind of resolution since the Xbox 360, gave evidence for it, and you went off on a tangent about the Netflix app?

That kind of resolution is common in many scenarios, but not xbox 360.

You gave no evidence, just other resolutions...

Would you go for one of those in preference to a £49 Amazon Fire?

Had some "Refurbished" items from Argos a few years back and found a rude word written in the instruction manual! What are these refurbs like?

Screen res still isn't great on the new reduced price fire and I prefer a normal Android OS rather than's amazon's own which locks you down to their own appstore etc...

But if these issues don't bother you the new low price Fire tab is a decent little device
It's for the kidlings to use so resolution isn't an issue and have heard that you can side-load the google app store?

Hmmm. Difficult decision. I suppose I can order the Argos one and if it's cr*p send it back. Out of the two mentioned is one better than the other?

if purely want to use for browsing then fine but bought for son for Christmas and decided to download game apps so all set up and ready but glad I did. realised only 8gb memory so bought sd card too but couldn't move any of the apps to it. to even instruction book in box said could so rang customer services who said only docs and pics could prob be used. that meant not enough space for all I wanted (games for young son). so like said if purely want to net browsing then prob fine but I returned ours!

depends what apps you want. the alba uses Google play whereas fire is amazon apps. some charge for apps that other don't. personally tho I'm going to look for a 16gb. got an alba but returned today as after 10 games downloaded it was full and doesn't transfer to sd card!
