Great budget phone. I have been using it recently but couldn't find a post so thought I would share.

The phone comes unlocked with a Sainsbury's sim.

I have been using and recommend 3 for the unlimited 3G data with tethering.

Great price for a budget Android phone, same price as a feature phone now.
I'm sure some will complain about specs and so on, but that's all price relative tbh.

One Sainsbury's review appears to indicate that there is no GPS. There are many versions of this phone apparently, and some don't have it. Can anyone confirm the status of this particular phone? Also, when I mockup an order it say Network: Sainsburys which makes me wonder if it is actually unlocked?

Phones from Sainsburys Phone Shop are unlocked if you purchase the phone on the Sainsburys mobile network.

However, if you purchase a phone from them on a different network (e.g. Vodafone) it will be locked to that network.

Hi, I bought 2 in May this year on promotion £20 both unlocked decent for the cost long battery life ,had to buy a £5 Sim though. Oh, and don't forget Nectar points too.

"I have been using and recommend 3 for the unlimited 3G data with tethering"

I thought that deal had been discontinued years ago to new subscribers.
Can you post a link on 3's website to the tariff you recommend?

I have been using for 4 months, never any issues. Used the WiFi hotspot for video streaming on tablet & PS3 & can download torrents without difficulty at around 1mb/s outside of peak times. Best speed test I have had around 6mb down 2mb up but I am sure speed are area dependant.

OK...

Actually the C1 is the older model with no spec advantages I can see. Same screen, GPU & Memory plus CPU both dual core 1GHz so how is it better?

The Pixi also has an Android Upgrade, C1 released 2013 & Pixi launched 2015 so has KitKat instead of Jelly bean on C1.

Also If you buy from Argos you must top up £10 making the deal £30 total so not worth it imo.

£25 for the 4" version from o2 ,, just to add this phone is terrible quality touch screen blurs when touched would much rather pay an extra tenner for a better phone even the huawei y550 ..

My phone is not slow and does not blur, I am currently running the stock KitKat with Google Now Launcher. I recommend Huawei Y330 & Huawei Y550 as goid value but this is also a good phone for the price.

That tariff doesn't actually allow tethering.

You may have got away with it thus far, but it's by no means guaranteed. I'm with Three. Currently on the (original - still not been kicked off it yet ... so far) One Plan, which does allow tethering. Previously I was on a monthly contract, which didn't allow tethering. It always worked for a while, but also always cut off eventually.

Good deal

Same here, I tether quite often, usually when working away etc and use several GB a session just fine. The 123 three sim and a vodafone smart ultra 6 and you're laughing. Mainly laughing at those paying £900-£1500 over 2 years for some overpriced samsung, HTC or apple handset.

You might already know, but if you want to top up £15, do it in 3x£5 as you get 120mb free data each time you top up a fiver.

Wow. It took ages for your deal to become hot but the deal is still on and is as hot as it was over two weeks ago when posted

Edit: Did a factory reset and deleted/disabled a load of apps and now it works fine. Battery life well over 24 hours, sometimes days, depending on usage.

Given up on mine. I was using it mainly for a small number of calls and texts with about 15 minutes wifi use per day, the occasional turning-on of the 3g feature for a minute or two while on public transport, and with just three extra apps downloaded, only one of which I used - whatsapp. With this meagre usage the battery life dwindled to just 8 hours over about 7 weeks, with function becoming slow, screen locking up, launching one app blurring with another etc.

Back to my old very basic phone that has a glorious 2 and a half week battery life. If anyone can tell me where I was going wrong with the alcatel I'd be grateful. Could the battery really have knackered itself in such a short time?

It's gone unfortunately.

Very tempting as a festival phone packed with a decent amount of features! Good find OP!!

Are you sure it has a GPS chip? Non-GPS phones still have location services and don't really differentiate between WiFi, AGPS and satellite services to the end user.

Yep but if you go for the rolling one month contract with unlimited data , 4gb is allowed for tethering.............

Which this isn't. (Or rather, it's not what the OP recommended or linked to)

He/she suggested PAYG. Not monthly contract.

I'm on the 30 day rolling contract. The old One Plan version. So my tethering is still unlimited. For now.

None of their PAYG SIMs allow tethering. (Which is what the OP recommended) As I say, you may get away with for a while. Or even for a long time. (I got away with it intermittently before I switched to One Plan) But it's by no means guaranteed.

Is this good enough for a car satnav replacement?

I've still got 3 of three's original 3pay payg sims these do let you do tethering each £5 top gives a free 150mb also costs £5 for 2gb add on but I don't bother as I'm on contract now with unlimited Internet

I recommended 123 PayG with All15 as it has been unlimited tethering since I have been with them 6months +. Not agreed in print or set in stone just my personal experience. Last month I tethered over 80gb. Anyway wasn't posting a sim deal but hope this helps clarify. Still using my handset, good value for money.

Only uses navigation once or twice as I don't drive. I know you can root phone & download TomTom for free with offline maps easily & no need for data which may be an issue & drains a lot of battery so would be fine as mini sat nav.

How do you root the phone? I've not found any reliable info on this.

You can download the Nokia Here app which is a offline maps app works for any android and you don't need to root however the maps do take up a lot of space but you can select certain cities countries or continents etc the bigger the more dose needed

Nice one. I think I can do that. Although it is running very well now, I've not charged it for five days and it's at 70% battery with everything working well.
