Is the bulb replaceable? Are spares easy to come by?

Is there much difference to one of these and an air fryer?

I've owned a halogen for two years. it's great for roasting chicken, fish, steaks & cooking chips also. hope that helps.

it's much cheaper than using stupid amounts of gas or electricity to heat a normal oven & cleans easily.

I'm not sure about the 3 years warranty as I've never heard of the halogen bulb lasting that long (usually 12months) also most of these bulbs are hard to fit for average people. My friend replaced mine for me & I bought replacement bulb off Amazon for £9.99.

I bought one of these last time, really good, just buy one, three year warranty too. So much cheaper to run no preheating needed.

About a 100 quid. X)

I love our halogen ovens. They're brilliant

Great deal especially for a digital/electronic version. Most at this price have mechanical timers. Bought one recently for about the same price which was mechanical but does have steamer and baking trays which this one doesn't appear to have.

I bought mine from Ideal World (£49.99). Can be paid over 2 months - £25 each. This one is exactly the same apart from it has a hinged lid, which makes it easier and safer to cook with. I've had it for 3 months and haven't used my main oven since. It cooks a chicken to perfection. The lamp has a steel slatted protected cover which you just unscrew to replace the lamp. A whole chicken doesn't cook any faster but chicken portions/meats do. Especially cooking foods from frozen is super quick. idealworld.tv/Coo…spx?fh_location=//IdealWorld/en_GB/$s=halogen%20oven

Forgot to mention, whichever one you get the glass bowl is huge. It would make a great punch bowl.

anyone know/tried if you can do bread, or partially baked rolls in these? I hate heating a full oven in the morning for a few rolls

You can do anything in this that you would do in an oven....

Thanks OP, didn't realise I needed one of these X)

So, this is cheaper to run to perfectly cook food in? Just trying to work out if it is worth it over a gas oven!

How does it cope with chips for example, do they come out nice and crisp in 25 mins like standard oven chips?

How do people find it to cook for two size/capability wise?

Has anyone worked out the amount saved versus a traditional convection gas oven?

Any other benefits?

It might be cheaper to use than an electric oven, but gas per kw hr is approx. one third the price of electricity per kw hr, so any saving over a well insulated gas oven is questionable,

I find that Pizza's especially, are much nicer cooked in a Halogen oven than a normal electric or gas oven. Recommended purchase.

Also, looking online, seems that they are pretty massive, would if fit inside a traditional oven to keep it out the way as I don't have the cupboard space!

I got one from ANDREW JAMES brand from AMAZON with 2 years warranty with Easily Replaceable Spare Bulb worth £10 and
128 page Recipe Book and Complete with Extender Ring (Up to 17 Litres) Lid Holder, Baking Tray, Steamer Tray, Skewers, Low and High Racks for £34.99 + £7.99 shipping

How do you cook a pizza in your halogen exactly? Everything else I find cooks fine, but I find that when the top of the pizza is perfectly done, the bottom is undercooked and still a bit doughy, the hot air doesn't get down the sides and underneath quickly enough in mine.

Have you tried using the metal grid raiser thingy which helps crisping up the underneath

I have tried it on a tray and directly on the lower riser, tried in a tray on the upper riser and the top burns. Did you use the higher riser and extender ring perhaps? That would allow more heat below and put the light further from the top.

I purchased a halogen oven over five years ago. Have not used the conventional oven once since then! These halogens are brilliant. Only thing is it doesnt roast the veg quite as crispy as it keeps things moist. Meat is fantastic. Buy it!

How would you do something like a pasta bake? Straight in the bowl or would the normal Pyrex bowl fit in ok?

Throw it in the bath with you.

yes the efficient convection fan ensure good circulation of the enclosed hot air ,
the other benefit of a fan is that it leaves the food moist unlike a contact grill (G'foreman et al) which can dry out the roast .
I got one about 18mth ago ,about same time I was doing my kitchen up and have yet to use the brand new built-in oven. I really like the haloven. Mines a small 7.5 litre Hyundai . Can be found in pounstretcher for £20

the advantages over a contact grill
1) the oil drips off vertically ( unlike a contact grill where the oil slopes off
2) the fan ensures warm air circulation
Kenwood also use a fan in one of their automatic breadmakers ..turns out a nice loaf

great product.
going for one with a hinged lid just a bit easier to use.

Yes, no problem. I used to heat my old oven up just for 2 Lidls frozen half baked baguettes.

The bowl is huge, a Pyrex fits in no problem. I do cauliflower and cheese in a pyrex, you just sit it on the low rack. Anything you do in a normal oven can be done in this.

This is the only time I pre-heat the oven. Rub some cooking oil on the tin tray and put it on the low rack and put it in at 250° for 5 mins. Then throw in your pizza, will crisp up better.

Came across this air fryer attachment. A bit dear at £15 but gets good reviews. Anyone thinking of an air fryer this might do the trick. I'm considering it myself; amazon.co.uk/FRY…_dp

I bought one on eBay recently for £12.50, I haven't actually used it yet though.

I was given a halogen oven as an Xmas pressies lol , didn't use for six months as put it away sulking . Got it out and I have to admit I use it daily , it's excellent at cooking meat, sausages , fish, I agree re pizzas the thin ones good but thick crust doughy IMO . Well worth money .
