Tastes good too, my 4 year old and I made some mince pies with it today
I don't get why it's called mincemeat if it doesn't actually contain any meat!oO

I have the same kind of thoughts when I go into Currys and Boots. They don't sell them.
Traditionally it always had beef suet or Venison. I guess the name just stuck after that.

Not bad, considering 10% of ingredients is horse meat
    Heat added
Can this be used in a Spaghetti Bologniase or as a meat substitute in other meals?

I think it is because in like middles ages they used to have meat filled mince pies during christmas
The spices were used to preserve the meat.

So what on earth is the stuff in the jar then? I assumed it was a meat-subsitutute mince.
minced just means chopped up. so minced beef, minced turkey. Just like diced means cut into cubes. I guess the "meat" was just added and never removed to make one word.
