It's wrong I tell you !!!!

Wrong, wrong, WRONG !! X)

Why is everyone still flocking to the big 4?

Aldi:
- Poor in quality
- Bugs included, sometimes alive
- Sells sell by date products - fish specially
- Noticed an error on your receipt? Forget about an apology, staffs look at you as if it's your fault
- Poor and cheap service
- Long queues with half of the checkout closed
- Their peppers smell like sewer

You get what you pay for.

Sounds like a whole lot of opinion and conjecture, and not a whole lot of facts or evidence.

If this is typical, then why are people, me included, flocking to Aldi and Lidl in droves? Five years ago, you could shop there and be in and out quite quickly. Now the car park at both my local Aldi and Lidl are almost full to bursting every day of the week. And you should see the cars in the car park; not just Audi's and Beemers but on occasions Bentleys and Rollers! All this 'you get what you pay for' stuff is outdated nonsense favoured by outdated snobby people who want to be seen as a cut above. Despite being German, Aldi and Lidl represents a new Britishness; more savvy, very discriminating in terms of quality and more than willing to fight back against being perpetually ripped off on price.

PS - I like figs. This is my favourite time of the year because I can gorge on them...

Aldi .... voted Best Supermarket 3 years running. Enough said

I love figs as well and now I regret not having stocked up. I forgot that the offers were changing today. Darn!

I dont mind shopping at Aldi/Lidl every so often- their fruit/veg is normally as good as the big 4 supermarkets and alot of the time they have branded products selling for cheaper as well. The only thing thats irksome are those copycat own brand products they try to pass off as branded by using similar names/packaging. It just comes across as sneaky and deceitful in my eyes! =/

Like when they tried to pass off meat as being Scottish when it had never been near Scotland. This of course was illegal and they were forced to rename their meat products.

I agree with you. There's definitely a market out there.
Price is not everything though.
Product and service is as important IMO and for this reason, they will never get a bigger market share unless they improve.

Ps: why don't you try some peppers next time ehh.. I wonder where they get them from..

God, i remember it wasn't till the 90s i first saw them. And it was considerably later when they finally appeared in supermarkets. 8 for £1.80 in Asda right now.. that is cheaper than any other time i've seen them for sale!

I buy their peppers all the time; the globe ones, the long thin red sweet ones and the ones that I put in my pepper grinder. None of these taste of sewer (or did he possibly mean sour??).

*I only smelled them.
I never dared tasting them so I wouldn't know what sewer tastes like.
Enjoy your variety of peppers :-)

I spent 18 months travelling in Germany and France. Lidls does a lot in France but they have hypermarkets. Germany however, Aldi are the largest and top of the range there and all our shopping came from there and local markets. I wish they would bring out a full range of clothing here rather than bits and pieces as their clothes really are top quality. I'm off for my weekly shop to Alid's tonight.
