Really handy for making Bombay Potatoes. Thanks. Hot.

I have never ever tried potatoes from a can...
Do they have very different taste from fresh? Do you prepare them exactly the same way as fresh?

They're different but I think very nice! Great for a quick tea, just heat them up in 4 minutes.

yes the taste is very different

they taste like a hard ball made from smash

I hate smash, I like these! :-)

They taste nothing like smash - but very different to "proper" potatoes. I personally don't buy them but they are pretty nice when sauteed.

I guess an easy comparison is to carrots. Tinned carrots taste pretty much like carrots but are soft and mushy. This is similar (though as potatoes are more dense, they are less mushy and a bit more slimy).

I've never eaten tinned potatoes either, but these are so much cheaper than fresh potatoes at the moment might just try them. Added economy of not going green when stored Voted hot

Always great for slow cooked stews

don't heat them in the microwave, had some explode on me once when i stuck a fork in to stir, must have released the pressure inside the potato and they went off like a spud missile! could've been nasty but just left me with a lot of cleaning to do :-/

no i'm not quite that dumb, might have been safer actually

Fairy snuff. I've heard some people boil tins in a saucepan without opening it and exploding.

If you're going to Aldi to get these then just get the 750g of fresh new potatoes for 59p instead!

Great cooked in with stew or mince. At 15p you can't go wrong! Hot.

they taste like the potatoes we used to have for school dinners over 28 years ago!!

These are great for the thrifty people on here! (me being one of them)

I once sliced them up and fried them in butter and some mixed herbs, they were lovely!

The taste is hard to describe, much nicer the instant mash but not a touch on fresh potatoes.

Worth noting most of the canned potatoes are in salt water, so avoid adding any extra salt when cooking until you've tried it.

these spuds are good for when u have a weekend fry up!!

What price are they normally? 30something p?

ASDA
15p (550g)

SAINSBURY'S
19p (540g)

TESCO
20p (567g)

I had the same experience....only it was when I bit into one and it exploded in my mouth. I was lucky not to cause serious damage to my mouth. Wonder if it's only with Aldi's tinned potatoes that do this.

Yes it's only aldi they grow there potatoes in a completely different way to the rest of the world so they can explode in the microwave

Tinned potatoes always had a strange taste to me, can't explain it but I have found a way to make them taste better.

If you are having them as they are, don't cook them in the liquid in the tin, tip them into a colander, rinse and then put in a pan with fresh cold water.

We like them chopped and stir fried in a large frying pan with chopped onions, chopped cooked sausage, a tin of chopped tomatoes and a bit of seasoning. Make a very filling cheap meal.

Someone said theyre good in bombay potatoes. Some of the takeaways round here do that, and I think they taste disgusting. I actually ask them first if it's tinned potatoes, as I love bombay potatoes. Now Is stick with the places that reply "No!" in a horrified manner.

However, great news if you like them!

Hot!

14p per large tin at morrisons last week - not sure if it was exactly that size, tho.
