also had lots of other stuff reduced like sound bars, USB sticks, cameras etc

Apart from the fact that in-car dvd players look absolutely naff, in the age of tablets and cordless headphones, is there any point to these?

I bought these from Aldi for £90 only a couple of weeks ago, very upsetting. They're pretty good, couple of niggles - they don't remember where you're up to on a dvd, so if you stop for toilet break (with kids every 15 - 20 minutes) when you switch them back on they'll start at the beginning again. Also, they only play 80% of our dvds, it's odd as they're all the same region and are genuine editions, will play lion king put not peter pan. For £50 I wouldn't complain.

More trouble than it's worth to try and transfer your entire dvd collection onto your tablet. Also you don't buy these to look good, you buy them to keep your sanity on long journeys

Rather my kids watch DVDs on these players for long journeys than get a stiff neck bending down looking at tablets. My DVD players look rather cool and they use cordless headphones with these.

oooh just had quick google cheers now the only prob is these take ages to charge then last for one film sometimes lol!

Couple of points for Dave and Sidney.
You can buy tablet mounts to fit a tablet to a head rest, so no looking down. And it is a bit of hassle digitising your DVD collection, but you digitise some chosen films. I cant imagine that you'd carry around your entire DVD collection in the car anyway, more likely a selection of films.
And digital media is advancing. There are many with Netflix, UV etc who have films in digital format anyway.
The major con as I can see, is if you've got two kids, its hard to get the same film playing at the same time on both tablets (I welcome suggestions as to how to sync tablets?). But then my two are different ages and want to watch different things, so not a great problem.
Good price anyway OP.

Something like this can be used to place most tablets in a suitable place.

Most tablets allow additional storage to be added. Assuming you own the original dvd, I can't see any issue downloading a digital copy, that's what I do. DVDs are obsolete IMO.

yeah thats what we have done copied all our dvds to a external hard drive then i put them on to usb stick when we want to watch, that's why these are quite good as they have the usb port

Anyone know if these play most formats (ie divx, Avi, & mp4) & do they have enough power to run off external hard drives?

Hi, these would be perfect for my girls but never had one before, how do they charge?

We use a tablet mount that sits in between the front seats and connect the ipad up to the speakers via Bluetooth - it's like a cinema in the car!

Comments like "is there any point in these?" are ridiculous though. For many people dvd players are a better option.

I got one last year good quality and have had no problems although I paid £30 in the end of year sale

what is the exact make of these? The had a couple in the my local aldi's today that began with an "M" I think but they were priced at £90 in one of the stores and £75 in the other

Great. As if it wasn't bad enough our kids vegetating at home in front of screens now when you take them out they can continue to do so.

Thanks op

Have you ever done a long journey with squabbling kids who are bored rigid and can't use their tablets because looking done makes them vomit? These DVD players are amazing at keeping them quiet. It's really convenient just sticking a DVD in rather than doing the whole digital faffing as well - I'm all for simplicity. The £50 or so I paid for ours is cheaper than the other options - ejector seats, cattle prods or a soundproof screen between me and them

lol well that's up to the parents,my kids watch about half hour of TV in morning when getting ready for school, then when they come in they go out in the garden until bath and bedtime,so I wouldn't say they vegetate!!!

aldi use an umbrella name for their products but they are all made by different suppliers

I got similar to this, for £49 this is a great deal. Tablets are fine, but I can't afford two for my kids and I can also control those through the power lead or remote to ensure they are watching the right thing, can't do that with tablets. Also, if they get damaged, £49 is much better than a £200 tablet for the car!

I bought one of THESE from Amazon last year for this exact reason and would wholeheartedly recommend it.

Consists of an elastic strap with velcro which fits most head rests.

If you have black headrests, the strap blends in really well.

Most sized tablets can be attached using the two detachable clamps which hold the tablet securely (ours has been used for 8" and 10").

The tablet can be easily removed for storage when destination is reached.

In my opinion, this is much better than those flimsy plastic monstrosities some people have stuck to the headrest.

£20.99 seems expensive, but I think it's worth it.

Wrong again, anything apple is rubbish and does not allow any outside expansion

Medion was a Woolworths brand, made laptops amongst others.
Assume Aldi bought it of the liquidators of Woolworth's.

Why assume when it takes so little time to check, Medion was a German company (Woolworths may have stocked some products) until 2011, Lenovo now hold a majority stake.

I find leaving the kids at home makes the car journey go more quickly

Yes I have done long journeys with young children. I prefer them to look about and digest what they see around them rather than watching movies/cartoons.

Make it interesting for them by talking about what they see. Eg history of places you are passing, how wind energy works (when you pass a windfarm), other peoples cars etc

If that's how you feel about in-car entertainment why exactly did you click the link and view the deal? Just to give your valued opinion?

Well done, thanks for your input.

Cheers op, I was looking for one of the but I'm too late lol

i don't know if you have checked your locals but there was more in the hednesford aldi near to me today at this price

Just seen one of these twin Maxtek units in a Aldi near me marked down to £49.99. They also had a dual version where you can watch independent films down at £79. The dual one, unlike the twin, also has a built in battery so you don't have to be tethered to a power source. Maybe that would remember your position. I'm after a single one though.
