Cheers, great for the family but a b*tch to park.

Not such a great deal when you factor in the eight month average lifespan of an Alfa gearbox

IMO Better headline deals would be the £10k saving on the Volvo XC90 and Volkswagen Touareg. Or the £3.5k on the Audi TT.

That'll be 7 new gearboxes under the 5 year Alfa warranty then.

Only 3 years now, it was a limited offer last year.

Theres many things that go wrong with the Giulietta.. but the gearbox isn't one of em (yet)

Nightmare in Tescos, but good for putting all those cheap bottles of wine in

Free-rust rather than rust-free.
A new pre rotten Alfa never been cheaper.

Having owed an Alfa a few years ago I can tell you they are kit cars that need building as you go. The day the warranty runs out you don't won't to own one of these, spare parts / repairs are ridiculous. I took a 147 to a 100k miles, it sounded like a bag of spanners being kicked down a staircase due to a known fault with the cam belt variator, only £600+ to fix each time that went. Let's not talk about the gear box, £1000+ to fix that one!

If you're after a longer warranty and planning on keeping the car a while, these is a cheap buy.

It's no where near the fun of an Alfa though.

Maybe they were in danger of bankruptcy if they kept the 5 year warranties up. The best looking car in the Golf sized class IMO, but just couldn't buy one over the MK7 Golf GTD I got a few weeks ago.

I've had my Alfa GT for 5 years. The only thing that needed replacing was the turbo under warranty. Everything else has pretty much been wear and tear. I drive it like a maniac.
The Alfa Red paint is pretty poor for stone chips though.

Alfa make great looking cars. I nearly bought an Alfa bought I got my boring Golf, but unfortunately I needed something that I could drive everyday without the engine failing, the car rusting or the electrics failing. Having said that I believe the Guiletta is one of Alfa's more reliable cars. You can pick up 11 reg ones for under £8K, so unless you're a reg plate snob, save yourself a few quid and get a used one.

One thing I really hope is that Alfa don't use daylight running lights on their new models, that has to be the tackiest addition to any car. Even the Hyundai i10 has them now.

European Union Directive 2008/89/EC requires all passenger cars and small delivery vans first type approved on or after 7 February 2011 in the EU to come equipped with daytime running lights and trucks & buses from August 2012.

Fishmaster - I'm after a 11 reg Giulietta and would really love to pay £8k - can you point me in the direction?
