Not played this one either but the theme looks solid and it rates 6.8 on BGG. NBP is xbiteworld on ebay (same group as 365games).

Alien Artifacts Card GameAlien Artifacts is a 4x-style card game in which you play as an interplanetary corporation, sending your research vessels into uncharted space to expand your knowledge and power. Build your ship, research tech, and explore the galaxy for anything — or anyone — you can exploit.
Alien Artifacts is built on a Resource engine - each turn you will have 3 Resource cards in your hand and you will decide how best to spend them. Each resource card has two different resource types for you to use. You can only use one side and only two cards per turn! Using these resources, you will build Ships, develop Technology, discover Planets, or Trade for currency!
Alien Artifacts provides a true 4x experience in under an hour. With over two hundred cards, Alien Artifacts offers players many scoring strategies and great replayability.

like the look of this so read a fistful of reviews, this struck me as best :

board-game.co.uk/ali…ew/

tl:dr - easy to pick up and fast turns keep things interesting but game drags on with more than 3 players and it's a bit unbalanced plus forces pvp when other options run dry.

i like the look of it but wait to ask someone who has played it (or its archetype, 51st state)

Thanks, that's useful to know. I haven't played it but thought it looked in interesting enough for the price
I saw this post and thought "oh no, another boardgame bargain that I'll be compelled to buy". Fortunately I've set myself a minimum requirement to only buy games with at least a 7 rating on BGG (otherwise my collection would be out of control). Heat for the price though!

That's not a bad system to have to be honest. I tend to only post things above 6 on BGG as some games are cheap for a reason. This reminded me a bit of tiny epic galaxy or something like that so thought it might be worth a look

I'm toying with restricting it further to only games with a complexity weighting of 2.5 or lower. A good portion of my games remain unplayed because I lose interest halfway through the rule book

Sometimes I don't understand the weighting, Scythe for example is 3.38 but there are basically 4 actions you can do and the rules are fairly straightforward. I taught it to a couple of friends who were non boardgamers in about 15 mins without using the rulebook at all.
Having said that, I was supposed to play the new Dune game a few weeks ago (but it was delayed) and that seems very very complex (a 4.11!)
Heat for the price. Reviews say it plays best as 2 player game which is even better for me. I like the theme. Voted hot and I think I will give it a go.

Hope you enjoy. Thought it looked pretty decent and like something I'd play

I have the exact same system, but with that said I have played a few games in the 6's that have been some of my favourite games. But with there being so much choice and not enough time to play everything I set my limit to 7 just so there is very little chance of it being terrible.

I do find that the ratings can fluctuate quite a bit on bgg though. I prefer when people leave a decent comment as to why they have scored something the way they have
