In which case what did you think about the missing content left on the cutting room floor?
The crew is an unmemorable band of bodies just waiting to be slaughtered.
There's an emphasis on couples yet no time is spent on them. You don't even know who's partnered with whom a lot of the time.

Blink and you'll miss Franco, The Engineers and Shaw.

Remember the questions asked in Prometheus.
What happened to the engineers?
Where did they go?
Why did they want to kill us?
What did we do wrong?
What went wrong on LV-223?
What is the black goo?

Nah forget it, you don't need to know. ONWARD WITH THE COVANENT!

Alien Queen gets reconned. David makes eggs practically out of thin air.

For a supposedly smart bunch of people this crew is somehow able to make mistake after mistake leading to death after death. If that's what's necessary to further the plot then you've gotta go back to the drawing board.

No helmets on an Alien world? I mean HELLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOO.
They must have skipped the foreign diseases lesson along with Holloway. That or nobody at Weyland is taught such things.

Let's not forget the biggest sin of all, David and his minimorph puppet.
No chestburster? Retconned.
Facehugger implantation time? Now a fraction of a second.
Alien growth rate? Full size in around 20 mins. Rush rush rush.

Terrible film. Retcons previous Alien movies and takes the story/back story in a silly direction.
A slap in the face to the fans.

Doesn't mean it does the franchise justice.
The majority of the people watching are likely not very familiar with the older movies so are unaffected by the retcon. All they see is a fast paced watered down sci-fi flick.

I'm a massive fan of the Alien franchise, and I found the film to be hugely disappointing. The script was dire, the plot was riddled with inaccuracies and cliches, and the totally CGI alien looked dreadful. The only saving grace was Fassbender's flawless performance(s).

Oh, and the moon of Acheron's former name was LV-426, not LV-246

I'll wait for this to show up in Poundland than I might bite!

Decent enough film although the neomorph reminded me of the spoof 'alien' from Spaceballs.

You couldn't pay me to watch this garbage again. I've never seen a group of such stupid people, actually the crew of Prometheus were almost as bad.

Roll on Neil Blomkamp's Alien sequel following on from Aliens (which Ridley Scott sabotaged) - and which Fox will be BEGGING Blomkamp to direct within a decade.

Alien Covenant was just a popularist box ticking exercise cheaply using script templates from the best parts of the previous Alien films. It was lazy film-making and an extremely disappointing film.

If you mean "Alien 5", that's been cancelled according to various reports.

I was about to respond but this covered my points perfectly!

I have pre ordered this before watching Covenant at the cinema, upon returning I immediately cancelled! Such a disappointing mess

It just about made it into third place for me, behind Aliens (First Place) and Alien itself (Second Place)

Exactly what I was was alluding to, because Scott leant on the executives at 20th Century Fox to cancel the project for his craptastic Prometheus prequel trilogy.
Like George Lucas before him, Ridley Scott has lost his edge and his way with this franchise, obsessed with this prequel story and explaining everything behind the origins of the creature, unaware that it was it's mystery that was half the appeal in the first place. Scott is 80 years old now. Fox will be BEGGING Blomkamp to reboot the franchise with his (cancelled) story within a decade.

The movie was good and watchable. What I hate is how Scott has took the story and the cannon and slapped it in our faces and said frack you it's not happening the way it should and a stupid android made things that doesn't follow from the first movie . The damn fossilised engineer was hundreds of years old .

really good film for me.

I walked out of the cinema hating it. It must have been similar to how people reacted to Alien3 in 1992 with the killing off of major character(s) off screen. I'm not even going to touch the retconned history / life cycle elements.

It's a weird one this, there are individual elements that are good and Fassbender turns in a fantastic performance, but it belongs in a better film/ a film that has nothing to do with the alien mythology. I was at least enjoying myself until a certain reveal which at best undermines Alien and at worst takes a **** on everything established in prior films and says **** you to the fans of said films. Alien is a masterpiece but I think maybe someone else should have a crack at these films now. The George Lucas analogy is becoming scarily accurate.

Like I said, there were parts of the film I enjoyed and I can see why it got the reviews it did - on a technical level, it's a well made film and for the most part does the job visually. It's just thematically where it stumbles and I can see why fans are upset.

Oh well, at least we got Alien Isolation - imo the best follow up to the original two films. X)

Just saw it. Didn't rate it. A rehash of the same old, same old. Fassbender was great though.

I'll be saving £22.99.

Don't worry, the off screen kills will be forgotten once they bring a time travel element into the series, as per the Star Trek reboot.....

It's not a great film in my opinion. Prometheus was far better

Ordered weeks ago, apart from other aspects included the 4K element means it'll have resale value if it sells out!

I'm a huge alien franchise fan, but given how Prometheus was a let down, I went into this with low expectations. It failed to even meet them. Gutted is an understatement for how I still feel. In fact it reminds me of the only other franchise I loved and the latest instalment destroyed that too (halo).
